Did you ever have a Kirk chair?

^ In that same vein, I just bought a set of 5 Burke 115 chairs (trek bridge chairs) as my dinette set. It's awesome to see that design form every morning.

Cool! Do you or anyone else have pix of these nostalgic beauties?

No, but I wouldnt mind having one. I seen on ebay and other places where you buy props thats like in the tv shows, and have seen Kirk's comand chair. But the chair is really pricey and I just dont have that kind of money to spend on getting one. I like to get one someday if I ever can afford it.

Yeah, and thankfully i wasnt the only one along with all you guys.

I had an old red luxury office chair my dad used to use. I had two pieces cheap wood from a set drawers that were white coated. I, ahem, super-glued them to the arms and it looked the part, especially when i also tacked my stereo and tv remotes to them. ;)

Also, i had a large ten foot by 6 foot window in my old house and looked just like a view screen.;)

And, yeah, i made a cardboard intercom 'around' my light switch so it would seem i was hailing the bridge or something. I still love the physical click buttons in TOS.

So, yeah, i had a Kirk chair, and would watch TV with either my leg crossed or a cup on the arm.

Oh the joys of childhood.

Next step is to re-mortgage my house to get the Art Asylum full scale captains chair.

If you build a full scale replica of the bridge in your garage, the value of your house will double. Or so I've heard :shifty:

Hi...,
Yes my dear it is totally depend on your choice. Some people are preferring it and some people are not.I really feel comfortable by sitting on it.Nice sharing.....

As a kid I played with electronics (you know, the closest thing you could get to computers before those were cheap enough to buy); build a lot of multivibrators for both sound and light effects, had some LEDs (they were rather big in those days) and lamps built into both old shoe-boxes and home-made LEGO things for control-panels (that did nothing but switch on lights and sounds -and when the 555 timer became available to play with, I had some great times :rommie: )

Only later on I actually did have the captain's chair in my life; just your average big swivelling office-type chair with arm-rests, but in the middle of the room in front of a big TV and with all remotes and a computer (or two) to follow my orders within arm's reach. I sit there right now. :)

There were never any chairs in my house growing up that seemed suited for pretending they were Kirk's command chair. We did, however, have a landing at the bottom of our stairs that was completely enclosed with two steps leading up to it. I used to put two pizza plates on the floor there and pretend it was a two man transporter!

Never did as a kid... I did once construct the helmsman/navigator console. It was a pretty shoddy interpretation, but accuracy wasn't the main drive. It was used as a prop for a Super 8mm movie project. I still need to get that old reel converted to digital!

Anyway, I bought a leather chair from a Danish furniture store that has a "captain's chair" feel to it. That's about the closest I've come. When I was in my early 20's and playing around with furniture designs, I once designed an "updated" version of the NCC-1701 captain's chair. It was more streamlined. One arm held various slots for equipment controllers, while the other a storage compartment for VHS tapes. Of course, there was a beverage holder and a snack tray too. I had planned to develop the skills to make it someday. Hasn't happened yet. ;)

I was recently sorting some old family pics to load them into a digital photo frame when I came across something that brought back memories. I could see an old blocky black leather chair we used to have in the rec room of the house I grew up in in the '70s.

It really wasn't that reminiscent of Kirk's command chair but there was something about it's shape that made it close enough. I remember cutting out pieces of cardboard and drawing and colouring controls on them to tape to the arms of the chair in order to complete the feel. I loved sitting in that chair to watch TOS reruns in the early to mid '70s and played Star Trek in that chair for hours on end with an AMT Enterprise and Klingon battle cruiser models to complete the scenario.

Man that was fun.

Anyone else ever have a Kirk chair?

As a kid I used to hang cardboard boxes off the sides of an armchair in my bedroom.

Flash forward 30 years and now I have one...
