Did this scene really happen?

It's disputed that that is actually the galaxy for various reasons. Allegedly the current story group position is that it's a protostar.
That's kinda my take on it too. There's no way you would have noticeable parallax movement or rotation when looking at a galaxy. That thing is rather close and small.

That's a good technical observation. But did the Hollywood fx artists know that? The opening credits on
Star Trek: Voyager famously show a ringed planet with the ship reflected in the rings, and it makes this "gas giant" about the size of four Walmart parking lots. They don't always understand the geometry when they paint these space shots.

That's similar to the stock Enterprise-in-orbit shots in the original series. I always saw them as a stylized representation of a spaceship orbiting a planet. If those shots were visually literal, the Enterprise would be several hundred miles long and turned 90 degrees on its roll axis.
