Did this movie inspire Captain Proton?

Maybe I'm the last person to find this but I thought it was really cool.

It looks like Captain Proton gets a lot of its design inspiration from an old sci fi movie, which I found introducing the Mystery Science Theater 3000 version of Robot Holocaust. (I'm a huge fan of that show and love watching them online).

Oh I found it, from
King of the Rocketmen

With an appearance by Leonard Nimoy!

From the series,
Radar Men from the Moon

Well, King of the Rocket Men was a serial, not a movie. But of course Captain Proton was directly based on all the great sci-fi serials of the '30s and '40s, mostly Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers but also the Commando Cody serials (Proton's jet pack) and Undersea Kingdom (Satan's Robot).

I thought the Captain Proton idea was very clever - glad they did it.

It was a nice way of personalizing Tom Paris in the same way the DS9 writers personalized Bashir with the James Bond stuff. I guess the TNG writers did it as well with the Robin Hood stuff...but I didn't like that as well as Captain Proton and James Bond.

But overall, it is a fun way to add depth to a character...and make the show laugh at itself. And I think that is important.

I love this episode. It was great to see the actors get a chance to ham it up and have some fun. Janeway's Queen Arachnia was over the top and fun to watch. :)

^ Agreed. Bride of Chaotica! is probably one of my top 5 - 10 VOY episodes, for certain. Kate Mulgrew was brilliant, and you could tell that she in particular, but everyone else too, was having a ton of fun!

I love that one line "Arachnia, my bride!!!!"

The whole thing was just brilliant - what could be better than using old cheesy scifi to make new cheesy scifi ? Great stuff there!
