Did the filmmakers even watch TOS?

It just seems to me that with each new piece of this gigantic puzzle we call STXI that we get, it more and more feels like this movie is set in an alternate universe created by the events of First Contact and involving ENT. I mean the bridge looks like it's from TMP, the uniforms don't match up with The Cage or even WNMHGB, Chekov doesn't have the Monkees hairdo....the list goes on and is getting longer. Don't get me wrong, I am very interested in this movie and fully intend to see it in theaters or buy the DVD whichever comes first. I just feel that this movie will not only please a lot of people, but also tick off a whole bunch of the canon freaks at the same time.

No, they did not.
They are a bunch of scam artists trying to tell Trek fans what they want to hear.

Yes but they decided that a film made in 2009 had to look like it was made in 2009.

Despite written evidence to support my claim, which some probably will dismiss out of hand anyway since those adamant about berating this movie will do so no matter what they're told, I'm quite certain the creative team did indeed watch the Original Series. They just didn't pander to the collective hardcore fandom and take every single element of the original series and translate it to the big screen.

Instead, they...hold on to your hats, folks...tried something new! Shock of shocks! Horror of horrors! A new approach to Star Trek!? Unheard of! Absurd!

Pardon me on that. My Sarcasmometer went on overdrive for a second. I'm just growing incredibly weary of purists acting so appalled that more of the original series, if not all, was not incorporated into this movie. That's like people complaining that the Bat-tusi didn't make it into Batman Begins, for frak's sake. If you want the original series, watch it. It's on DVD and remastered on television. Episodes are available for viewing free of charge online. The book series are ongoing, and there's a great comic series being published right now.

Just don't expect any of that to last much longer if this movie tanks, though. You want a sure-fire way to ensure nothing new Trek-related shows up? Let this movie fail. Then all you'll have are your memories. Hope it's worth it.

Quite a radical concept, no? Modernize Star Trek? Psshaw!

Sorry, naysayers. Retro has its place, but not in Star Trek; not anymore. Star Trek needs to evolve if it wants to survive, even if it means a radical metamorphosis.

when Kirk quipped in TOS, "Tell José his jalapeños will be there just as soon as possible," some kind of 60s joke, was the audience supposed to add anti-Mexican prejudice to canon?

shows change. the look changes. the 23rd century viewed through the lens of the 60s (or 80s for that matter) is entertaining and enlightening, but more for what it reveals about the society that made it, not the purported future in Star Trek.

the Klingon Soviets fascinate me, but if the Soviets aren't the problem anymore, why not adapt Star Trek to be a comment on our current society?

TOS-inspired stuff doesn't need to be a sixties retread forever. TNG-style stuff doesn't need to be stuck in 1990.

Let Star Trek be Star Trek, an optimistic, exciting, thrilling view of what human beings could be, something timeless for any era.

They're ripping off Roddenberry's idea.
I'd be very surprised if assholes Orci had an original idea in his head.

Wasn't he a nice guy yesterday? oh wait, he told you to stop stalking him..

I only feel sorry for the rest of us....
It's people like this Matt guy who give a bad name to the rest of the normal Trek fans.

Point 1 : I have seen nothing in this trailer that violates canon!
Point 2 : This movie is a fantastic homage to the original series, given what you've seen how can you ask if they've even seen TOS.

As much as this film is a homage it also deserves the chance to have some creative freedom, and this means updating a few things here and there. But I have no doubt in my mind that this will enrich the Star Trek Universe, not destroy it.

People have been ripping off Roddenberry's "ideas" for the last 30 years...
Star Trek II, IV, VI, last half of TNG, DS9...... a lot of the best parts of Trek were just "based on Roddenberry's Star Trek," so what's your point?

Check his posts, it was "Mr. Orci" yesterday.

I have seen his posts.
I have seen them before he was told where to go and contact Orci, I saw them while he was talking to him and I see them now.

It's sad...I guess Orci had enough of him at some point.

If you're Paramount and you're looking at the franchise and seeing the declining returns you have to say to yourself, "how much more money do we sink into this if we're going to continue to do things the way we've always done them?" It's been a downward slide in the ratings and box office since the back half of Voyager, into Enterprise and also from First Contact (which did well) into Insurrection and then Nemesis.

You can't beat your head against a brick wall forever hoping that "this time I'll break through". You have to change your approach. Love it or hate it, you have to figure the studio felt it had to be this way in order to shake things up.

You can't say it isn't bold at the very least.

EVERYTHING AFTER "THE CAGE" MUST BE DE-CANONIZED AND BURNED FROM EXISTENCE AND OUR MEMORIES!!!

just as 'ol gene rod intended:vulcan:
