Did she do that? & Why did he do that?

I have 2 questions, one about a regular movie and the other about a sci-fi movie, so I wasn't sure whereto post it so I put it here. If it needs to be moved, moderators please be so kind as to move and say why.

We'll start with "Did she do that?" In A League of Their Own, did Dottie (Geena Davis) intentionally drop the ball so her sister could be the hero of the game of the final game?

Then, "Why did he do thay?" in Return of the Jedi, why did Luke throw his lightsaber away?

This is a really difficult one, because good arguments can be made for either one. My personal opinion, though, is that she did drop the ball on purpose, because this was the making of Kit's future, not Dottie's (she just wanted to be a mother and homemaker), and knowing that Kit would resent her forever if she lost, Dottie let the ball go so Kit could get out from under her sister's shadow. Because, quite frankly, if Dottie really wanted to, she could have held onto the ball. She had done it before.

It was simply a gesture that he was completely disarming himself because he believed deep down that his father was truly good.

Honestly, probably not the best decision he could have made.

Not knowing about Force lightning, he probably thought the Emperor was unarmed, and was being cocky in order to make his point.

i think he was making the point that he didn't care if Vader or the Emperor killed him, he wasn't going Dark or going to try stopping them any more, probably counting on the Rebels to destroy the Death Star.
