Did anyone hear this?

The author, Kage Baker, creator of The Company series of books, apparently died 1/31 of this year. I didn't hear a thing-just found a link to her web site and read the above. She's one of the more recent authors who's work I really enjoyed- no hack writing set in a pre-made, movie franchise universe or based on a video game but original, interesting science fiction. I've read all of her Company stories that I could get my hands on-and now it looks like there will be no more. :(

I'd heard she was ill, but not that she had died. That's very sad. I've only read the first of the Company novels, In The Garden of Iden, but I liked it and was planning on continuing with the series.

Rest in peace. :(

What?! No! That sucks like crazy! I'm a very recent fan and after reading everything she's already written, I was looking forward to new books from her...

After the initial shock that was my second thought. I just found her about 2 years ago and hoovered up all of her published work to date. Looks like an expanded edition of her novelette Empress of Mars is out/coming out this month.

The new Empress of Mars is out now. They just got it in at the campus bookstore the other day. I was so tempted, but hardcovers are so expensive... I'm gonna be returning the copy of Alice in Wonderland I just bought because it only has the first story in it, so I think in exchange I'll buy Empress of Mars.
