Re: Did any of you Doctor Who/Torchwood fans NOT love Children of Eart
I think I have a slightly more positive assesment of Seasons 1 & 2 than many of the rest of you do. "Children of Earth" was certainly a different animal. It's great drama. It's also depressing as hell. I usually end up docking it 1 star for being so difficult to watch.
And I'd agree that it probably could have used some tightening (as most of the best multi-episode Doctor Who stories could). This is actually a rare case in TV where the build-up is less interesting than the pay-off. Before the 456 actually arrive, Parts 1 & 2 are kinda padded.
Actually, I think Rupesh is a tragic missed opportunity. How much more gratifying would that betrayal have been had he been established as a regular for a whole season and then outed as a spy at the end of Season 4?
I was surprised that Gwen's pregnancy wasn't more prominent. After her pregnancy was revealed in Day 1 and she told Rhys in Day 2, it really didn't even get mentioned again until Day 5, I think. I don't think it had quite the thematic poignance that they were hoping for. (I wonder if one of the alternate endings the writers were considering was using Gwen's unborn child to destroy the 456 instead of Jack's grandson.)
That's what I keep saying. Heck, ever since Season 1, I've wanted Torchwood to expand its horizons. I've wanted to see...
-Torchwood-2, which is run by a peculiar Scotsman, according to Jack in "Everything Changes."
-more Torchwood/UNIT team-ups.
-that "wild goose chase in the Himalayas" that PM Saxon sent them on to keep them out of the way in "The Sound of Drums."
And yes please to more of those lovely Victorian ladies from Season 2! After all the Jack/Ianto stuff, I think they owe me some femslash reciprocity!
Seriously? Do you have a picture of it?
In every country.

For example, we did not need Rupesh the Torchwood spy and I felt more emphasis could have been placed on Gwen and her pregnancy.

I wouldn't think it a bad idea if next time round they do a series based on one of the other Torchwoods around the Empire either based in contemporary times or from years gone by. I'd love to see a whole story with those Victorian ladies we saw in one of last season's episodes.![]()

btw Ianto's shrine is still there 4 months on at the door to the Hub and seems to grow each time I pass it!

They should screen it before every general election.
