Farewell to a grand dame of stage and screen. She won a Tony, a BAFTA, an Emmy and was appointed, by the Queen, as Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
Sad news. - I was a big fan of hers watching the British 'Avengers' series when I was a kid.
RIP and condolences to her family, friends, and other fans.
My thoughts go out to her daughter Rachael Stirling, son-in-law Guy Garvey (frontman of elbow), and grandson Jack. Sometime in the last six months Guy said that Diana Rigg was reading Jack bedtime stories via Facetime during the COVID quarantine, and I find that incredibly charming. I've thought several times today of the song Guy wrote for Jack about his own recently deceased father and how it would, quite easily, work in a gender-flipped way for Jack from his mother about his grandmother.
Ouch, my heart. She was one of the all-time great adventure heroes and trendsetters. Sometimes when a celebrity dies, I feel like I lost a friend, because they've been with me almost as long as I can remember. I started watching The Avengers on Channel 56 in the late 60s, around third grade, and loved it. It was so surreal, and Mrs Peel and Steed were so cool. There's been nothing like them, before or since.
Emma Peel, we need you. One of my favorite roles, though, was her staring role in the Mrs Bradley Mysteries. A short lived murder mystery series set in the 1920s. Her acerbic asides to the audience are hilarious. Well worth tracking down.
