Dialogue Doesn't Match the Scene

How about those moments when what is said doesn't quite go with what's happening?

• The Corbomite Maneuver
"I knew he would."
Sulu's line was confusing for years. Now we know what happened, but my best guess during the syndie era was that Sulu "knew" Kirk would apologize to McCoy. That wasn't it, which is why it didn't quite work as such.

• Spock's Brain
"If it will trap the creatures for the Others, Keptin, won't it trap us, too?"
The trouble: in the episode as shot, Morg and Eymorg are just plain cavemen and hot women. If you were seeing them in person, you wouldn't call them creatures. It rings false.

According to Allan Asherman's The Star Trek Compendium, there was supposed to be another line from Balok along the lines of "You now have five minutes" that they didn't dub in where they were supposed to. That's what Sulu was responding to.

The whole ‘Medusan vessel’ line, which TOS-R felt they needed to fix by making an actual Medusan vessel.

Likewise in "Charlie X," maneuvering alongside the Antares in the teaser. I like the TOS-R version for that.

Another thing: "Shore Leave," when Sulu says "Someone beaming down from the bridge." You have to mentally retcon it such that he recognized Spock in the beam, and said "someone" ironically.

I did too, although it think that’s a different situation. In “Charlie X” we didn’t see the Antares simply because they didn’t have the budget for it. In “Is There in Truth No Beauty” the dialogue stated multiple times that the Enterprise was escorting Kollos back to his home planet, and then out of nowhere at the end they refer to a ‘Medusan vessel’ (which we didn’t see, but we did see the planet!)

I'm sure Asherman is right, but I always thought Sulu was being sarcastic. Bailey had already whined about Sulu doing a countdown, and Sulu then joked as if someone complained again about his update.

Non-Humans, aliens, creatures.
Primitive creatures fits the bill. Creatures occasionally speak. Even a limited amount of men and women last century used it in endearing terms for intelligent ''normal'' people.

Someone neglected to read the Roddenberry bible.

And then there's the cost-cutting CLOUD MINDERS ventriloquism which should have been remastered and ejected.....

"One....minute" was such an easy fix for TOR-R and they missed the opportunity. So I did it myself on my video files by pulling the audio from the episode preview. It works great,

They didn't have the budget for any new model effects. All of the shots of the Enterprise come from the pilots. :) I'm surprised they had the money for the green blob at the end.

Which still works better than green blob with nacelles... oy

Not so easy. Ted Cassidy, who voiced Balok's dummy Dassik, died in 1979. Walker Edmiston died in 2007, BTW. Clint Howard is alive, and 65 years old.
Cassidy's voice saying "one minute" is in the preview of the episode. As I said, I did it myself using a cheap consumer video program in a short time with no professional skills.

I stand corrected.
Don't stand... sit...be comfortable...

:) No worries!

Up until today, I'd never heard of Walker Edmiston, and I recall at least one published source attributing Balok's voice to Vic Perrin.
Yeah ol' Vic was the go-to "sounds kinda like him" guy who got the credit in some of the earlier reference books. The surprise I got was learning he did the voice of Reger in The Return of the Archons for a few lines. I used to think it was an audio glitch that raised the pitch of Harry Towne's voice.

He was in a number of episodes, or his voice was. The voice of Vulcan Space Central in Amok Time and the phony distress call in Friday's Child, among others.

The Vic Perrin anecdote I remember is, he said that Star Trek welcomed you like a family, but when he got to Buck Rogers there was no such feeling. Not sure if it was the era, or just Gil Gerard being so unhappy with the scripts that it affected everything. I must have read it in a Starlog interview. I can't think of where else it would be.

I'll bet a lot of people confuse Vic Perrin with Henry Gibson. Gibson was on Laugh-In. He played a leprechaun and Napoleon on Bewitched. He did hundreds of other vintage shows. Terrific comedy guy.

The motion of the Enterprise at the beginning of "Charlie X" had looked to me like it was pulling up to the camera which was where Antares was. It would've been cool if they kept the original motion and had the Antares slide into view from the bottom of the screen.

Oh! I get it, like, "This f***ing guy." That's hilarious!! I must rewatch immediately. (That was always one of about 10-15 lines - not bad for 79 episodes - I could never make work. Thank you!)
