Dial a friend - friend, send help! (Spoilers)

Cadet49

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
In the movie, the Enterprise doesn't seem to be able to contact Earth for help, but they are able to
are also able to contact Spock Prime on New Vulcan.
. Now, since they manage to get this call out to a friend, why
don't they ask Spock Prime to contact Earth and let them know what's happening, and send a data package to Spock Prime, containing all their communications with Marcus in Klingon space - Surely they would have documented the communication. Then, Marcus would have no reason to destroy the Enterprise, since he was trying to cover up his plot to start a war with the Klingons... but once the Enterprise contacted Spock Prime, the whole Marcus conspiracy was blown, wasn't it? Kirk and Khan hadn't reached Vengeance's bridge yet, so Spock could have contacted Marcus and said:

Spock:, "Admiral, I have just been in contact with New Vulcan, and have made the Vulcans aware of your plot and intentions to silence the Enterprise - Vulcan authorities are at this moment relaying that information to Earth - You have been exposed, Admiral... destroying this vessel serves no purpose any longer, and if you do so, based on the videofeed we have sent my counterpart of Vulcan, people will know that were are not traitors who initiated a conflict with tge Klingons, and that you in fact killed everyone on this ship to attempt to hide this fact. You cannot proceed with your attack, Admiral - Stand down, Admiral.".

Admiral Marcus: "Well played, Mr..Spock. You're recording this conversation right now, aren't you?".

Spock: "The channel to New Vulcan was never closed, Admiral.

Spock Prime (over the intercom): "Greetings from New Vulcan, Admiral. I admit, I am finding listening to this conversation ... illuminating.".

Admiral Marcus: "For crying out loud! All right - Vengeance personnel, stand do..."

Kirk rushes out onto the bridge with Khan.

Kirk: "Admiral, stand down - you've lost!".

Spock(on the viewscreen):" I've already taken care of it, Captain.".

Kirk: "Oh, ok Spock - well thanks for wasting my time! Why didn't you tell me you were doing that BEFORE I released Khan from his cell! Now, he's free, and can...". (Khan knocks out Kirk)

Khan: "Well, Mr..Spock ... that didn't work out well for you, did it ... not well at all...". (He sits down in the command chair).

Seriously, why didn't Spock use his ability to communicate with New Vulcan as leverage against Marcus!?? :vulcan:
-.

My fanon explanation is that choosing between a Starfleet Admiral and Kirk - the Eath forces might pick Marcus. Not necessarily though as weird things have been going on.

Your suggestion seems reasonable but Marcus confession is not guaranteed and even if he were caught I still think Marcus backed into a corner would have destroyed the Enterprise to get rid of physical evidence against him.

But if
Marcus knew everything was being recorded and transmitted to New Vulcan, or even if Spock Prime had been contacted, would he really want to risk destroying the Enterprise, while being recorded? Would he rather return to Earth, and try to spin doctor his actions to the Federation after the incident ... weren't his plans ruined the moment Spock got communications through to New Vulcan ... checkmate, Admiral?

Good Point - instead of getting the Cliff's Notes on Khan, Spock #2 asks Spock #1 to help deal with the Crazy Power Mad War Mongering Admiral. But that would've prevented the destruction of a large portion of San Francisco!

And it would mean that Spock Prime actually served a useful purpose in the plot....

Yeah that was something that bugged me as well.

We cannot contact SF HQ to tell them a power mad admiral is trying to destroy us, but we can phone up Real Spock on Nu Vulcan.

Also, we were right next to Jupiter, having a fight with the Vengeance and suddenly we are plummeting into Earth's atmosphere.

Fucking bullshit.

So if you were Starfleet Earth would you believe Kirk/Spock to shoot down Marcus' ship or Admiral Marcus. They're not exactly bright sparks at HQ as has been demonstrated through all the series.
Also Adm Marcus told Kirk he never intended to let the Enterprise to survive. It stands to reason that he already had a cover story in place to blame Kirk for acting impetuously. So if anything Starfleet are going to help Marcus
Did the battle take place near Jupiter. I thought people said it was near the moon. I know it was near Jupiter in ST09

^It was between the moon and Earth. Hence the crippled Enterprise falling to Earth afterwards.

The head of Starfleet is against them. There are Section 31 spies on board sabotaging the warp core and who knows what else. Starfleet were probably told to ignore any communications from them. Who can you trust?

Kirk should have just posted the entire communication with Marcus on YouTube. That would have solved a lot of Trek's problems, from DS9's "Homefront" to Star Trek: Insurrection.:p
