Dexter

I just watched it. Two seasons of it. I thought a show about a serial killer would just be sick garbage, but I enjoyed it. I wasn't going to watch it, but my girlfriend said that it was really good. Has anyone else here watched it?

James Remar was pretty good as the dad. I liked Dokes and how he is such an asshole to Dexter.

I love this show. A friend of mine introduced me to it, and I was aware of it, so I watched it and I just fell in love with it. I've only seen the first season, but it was just genius, how everything is put together. The characters, themes, story arcs...it's just great, great television.

One of the best shows on TV and Michael C Hall is a worthy winner of the Emmy if he can wrangle it away from James Spader.

One of my favourite shows as well. It's completely different from almost anything I've seen before, and Michael C. Hall and the writers are brilliant in getting you to empathise and root for a serial killer protagonist. I can't wait for season 3, but I'm kind of hoping that's the last one as I don't want to see the stories start to peter out. I'm not even too sure where they can go following last season.

The show is a bit bipolar I find though. When it's good, it's really, really good (for example, most stuff involving Dexter and Doakes). However, Angel and Masuoka are two of the least interesting/most annoying supporting characters on television, and there are some ridiculous story threads from time to time like the LaGuerta/Pascale "there's perfume on my sweater! I CAN SMELL IT!!!!!" business from early season 2...

Thankfully, on the whole, the good outweighs the bad. The character studies of Dexter are riveting television, and if they would just cut out some of the lame subplots going on, it would easily be the best show on television, and possibly the best since Six Feet Under ended. Focus on the key character pairings: Dexter/Deb, Dexter/Rita, Dexter/Doakes, Dexter/Harry and (to a lesser extent) Dexter/LaGuerta; forget the rest.

One of the best shows I've ever seen. I had no idea what they were going to do after Season One, but they actually took the show and made it better, which astounded me. It feels like one long episode, which is astounding. You can literally sit and watch several episodes in a row and feel like you've watched one long movie. The second season is barely episodic.

I'm going to buy the books from Amazon for my birthday that's coming up. I haven't been able to find them in a bookstore, and I'm about to crack down and order them because I need something to tide me over until the 3rd season.

The pay off on that LaGuerta/Pascale perfume on the sweater thing was awesome, because I didn't see it coming. So I enjoyed that bit.

I was watching the first season on ITV, but I got sick of waiting, so bought the American DVDs. I watched the last 4 hours in one go, then I think I got addicted because I got a hold of season 2 and watched that through in one go.
I also bought the 3 books, and went through the first one in a couple of days. I'm eager to get on with the next one, but I have a couple of other books I already started that I want to get done first.
Personally I didn't think there was a bad episode in the lot. And I can't wait for the third season to start.

Only seen S1. Loved it.

It's exceptional; blending its hilariously black humour with appropriate but never sentimental character drama with strong performances, tight scripts and fantastic musical cues. Dexter is one of those TV shows which hits everything right out of the park on every level.

What I love about the show can simply be summed up in one of Dexter's many quotable phrases. As one serial manslaughterer pleads for his life, claiming that it's the alcohol that is responsible for his many murders; Dexter observes:

"That's a point of view to which I am not entirely unsympathetic. Neither your or I are in control of our own destiny... although at the moment it would appear I have the upper hand;" and he gets to work.

I'm currently watching Six Feet Under for the first time, so I think I may watch this next to see the continuing adventures of Michael C. Hall. :)
