Dexter, 30 Rock, Mad Men win Peabody Awards

Yay for Dexter!

Seriously, though--you're right. Dexter gets screwed when it comes to Hollywood Award shows. I think maybe they're a little bit scared of it.It's by far the best drama on television, but gets no love at all from TPTB.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts as well.

Though reading the article and the awards, I'm a little confused. Did they just give out a bunch of awards for important shows rather than 'best this-kind', 'best that-kind', 'best actor' etc?

The George Foster Peabody Awards, better known as simply the Peabody Awards, are annual, international awards for excellence in radio and television broadcasting. First awarded in 1941 for programs from the previous year, they are considered the oldest honors in electronic media. The awards are administered by the Henry W. Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia (UGA). The awards are named after the businessman and philanthropist George Foster Peabody. As part of his philanthropic activities, Peabody donated the funds that created the awards. Lambdin Kay, public-service director for WSB radio in Atlanta, Georgia at the time, is credited for creating the award.
The Peabody Awards are generally regarded as the most prestigious awards honoring distinction and achievement within the fields of broadcast journalism, documentary film making, educational programming, children's programming, and entertainment.
The Peabody Awards were originally only for radio, but in 1948, television awards were introduced. In the late 1990s additional categories for material distributed via the World Wide Web were added. Materials created solely for theatrical motion picture release are not eligible.

Colbert won a Peabody?! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! (to quote Colbert)

Also cheers for 30 Rock, which inexplicably got a third season renewal despite its horrific ratings! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

"...complex and ambiguous meditation on morality." Dexter is a black comedy, not pompous and pretentious crap. It doesn't meditate, fortunately, but moves briskly along. There's not even very much ambiguous about it's morality. The hit and run driver acts like a total asshole so we'll be glad he's dead. Teen killer offs himself. Dexter's murders are off stage so the sexual motivation is obscured. Since Dexter is simultaneously a greater detective than Batman and able to instantly swathe near acres of stage with plastic wrap, I'm not sure how relevant any of his adventures are. (His domestic misadventures, yes.) I'm not sure these people even realize Dexter is an unreliable narrator.

Although these are the halfwits who claimed Battlestar Galactica was good, they can't be wrong all the time---nobody's perfect! Just ignore the drivel and try the show.
