Depp as Tonto?

In SF&F there's the thread about the next Pirates of the Caribbean film, announced in this article.

There was a curious thing at the bottom.

In his presentation of upcoming Disney films, Cook also announced that Depp would play Tonto in an upcoming big-screen adaptation of “The Lone Ranger.”

Obviously, they are looking for a big name in the role, but, it did strike me as odd...as a role so obviously for a Native American.

Though, according to Wiki his great Grandmother was Cherokee.

So...thoughts?

Great,once they don't cast George Clooney as the Lone ranger.

George Clooney should've been Jim West.

As for Depp playing Tonto, I think it's pretty cool. I mean, he's played Native Americans before in films... His heritage really does come through in his looks. I don't think it'll really be a problem at all.
