Denzil IS The Equalizer

No doubt many readers will remember the original show, with its distinctive soundtrack, by former Police drummer Stewart Copeland
When I saw the thread title, I thought... That was the best thing about the show. The movie has to keep that.

That intro actually holds up pretty well considering it's age. With a few tweaks it would look downright contemporary.

Compare it to another show from about the same time period:

And if the theme sounds familiar it was done by the same composer as MacGyver

I happen to have just finished the Equalizer S1 DVD, and it's as I remember - a very good 80s show with some good, some mediocre, and a few fantastic episodes. But moreover, I enjoyed the WAY the show was made. The grainy exterior filming of NYC really brought out the grime and grittiness, and made the city feel real and dangerous. Put that together with Copeland's wonderful score and Woodward's "quietly dangerous" portrayal, and I really loved the show. I sure wish they'd release the rest on DVD!

I also have Stingray on DVD - much more a "formula" 80s show with plots that could have been on Airwolf or Knightrider, but still very enjoyable - except for the sappy topical song at the end of each episode! OY!

I liked the concept of Stingray and the character (and of course the car). It just gets let down by it's 80's formulaic execution. I could easily see a modern interpretation along the lines of Person of Interest. I also remember the show being one of the first I had seen that used behind the scenes photos in the closing credits. It was a neat peek behind the curtain.
