Oh, and bashing The English Patient...bold, very bold. I've never heard anyone say thing positive about that movie in the past 10 years.

I liked the English Patient.

Tastes in movies are so subjective and also personal and it is really only about personal opinions and there are no right or wrong answers.

You hate a particular movie? Fine! You love a particular movie? That's also fine!

I think the trouble is when people begin to view their subjective opinions on movies, music, etc, as a universal fact instead of just what it is...a personal opinion.

The Watchmen could be added to this list. I know I might not be making too many friends by saying this, but I rented it once, having heard so many good things about it, and I found myself waiting for the damn movie to be over. It's at least an hour too long. Not only that, but that movie takes itself way too seriously. It's a superhero movie, not Citizen Kane. Watching the movie, I got the sense that it was up its own ass, just like Star Wars.

I don't think you could call the Watchmen movie that highly rated to begin with. From the moment it came out, it's been a real rail-splitter in the fanboy community. True, there are a lot of people who love it, mostly because it slavishly recreates nearly every frame of the comic book. But many others hate it because it's too long, overly obsessed with gory slo-mo fight scenes, and completely misses the point of the original book.

If you don't watch The Office, you might walk into The Hangover and say, "Hey, who's this Ed Helms guy, he's pretty funny!"

Actually, I said, "Hey, I didn't know Jason Sudekis had a twin brother!"

He's got a point about Star Wars, actually.

No, really. Seeing it as an adult I've never really connected to it the way I did when I was a kid. I'm still a Star Wars fan because... well.. I was one of those twelve year old boys he refers to to begin with!

I think I burned myself out watching it as a youngin'. I haven't had a desire to see the original trilogy since... 2001? Mind, I think I had been spoiled by a really awesome trilogy by that point, Lord Of The Rings!

Moon - Hate to say it, but they're right - it didn't live up to the hype. Rockwell was great. The script - uh, not so much.

The Hangover - It was okay - inventive, not too dumb.

V for Vendetta - I agree, it was adolescent twaddle.

The English Patient - It's not terribly boring, which is good for an artsy film. Also, Sayid from Lost is in it!

There Will Be Blood - There damn well will be! What is this masterpiece doing on this list! The philistines!!!!

The Mist - Aw cmon, it was a terrific thriller. Love that frak-you ending.

Four Weddings, Notting Hill, Love Actually - Never seen em. I hate chick flicks.

Star Wars - Yeah, it actually sucks. That's why Lucas made the prequels to make it look so much better by comparison.

The Matrix - Pre-Avatar, this was the cliche-ridden pile of mush to beat.

Mulholland Drive - I know better than to subject myself to a David Lynch film!

Sigh, another self important blogger trying to make himself look more impressive by trashing popular movies.

Or possibly just expressing his personal opinion. Everyone doesn't like Star Wars.

And not everybody hates it. "Popular" does not equal "universally loved". Also, it's interesting that your first impulse was that I was defending Star Wars.

I didn't give a moment's thought to what movie you might or might not be "defending" - but Star Wars is as good an example of a "popular movie" that the piece trashes as any other that I - or you - could pull from that list as a point of reference.

My point remains - this guy may just not like those movies. As you might say, "it's interesting" that your reflexive assumption here is that the writer is motivated by a desire to make himself appear "impressive."

I haven't seen Moon. I was about to watch on Demand for $4.99 because I was visiting my mom and didn't have access to my Netflix. Then my girlfriend said,"It has Kevin Spacey in it. I've never enjoyed a Kevin Spacey movie." I thought about it. I liked the Usual Suspects and American Beauty had a couple interesting visuals. Superman Returns was a let down. There was K-Pax. So I bailed on it and watched a Vince Vaughn movie.

So my question is, since it is on the list, was Moon good or is it overhyped?

This is like the end of The Last Crusade, except instead of choosing the cup with the jewels on it, you chose the cup that got fat and hasn't been funny since Old School.

Just wanted to poke my head in and say that V for Vendetta is probably the shittiest movie I've ever seen. Anytime a thread gives me the opportunity to bring that up, by God I'm going to do it!

I haven't seen quite a few of them but I do remember thinking The English Patient was the most godawful thing I'd ever sat through at the time. Even the scenery could not save it. Four Weddings mystified me, it was completely unfunny. I hope to never see either of them again.

But Star Wars.. that was a "baptism of the imagination" for me, one not easily recaptured. I know it's all a matter of personal taste but I feel pity for those that didn't like it and maybe a little suspicion, LOL.

I can see how someone might not like Star Wars...but the Matrix???

I do agree about the Hangover....I thought it was horrible and didn't finish watching it after I fell asleep.
