Looking at the Playmates toy box, it's says "Valiant-Class." Was that what they were going to call it or just the prototype?

Just curious as it is now the Defiant Class, correct?

Yes, they were going to call it Valiant-class, but since they settled on the name Defiant and that ship was first in the class (as explicit dialogue told us), it is officially Defiant-class. Amusingly, a Defiant-class Valiant shows up later on.
