Defiance 2050

So next month should see the release of the updated version of Defiance, Defiance 2050 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

I was fairly late to the party for the old one, only started playing a few months ago - and got instantly hooked, despite the occasional glitches (yes I'm looking at you enemies who can shoot me before you've totally spawned in).

It's starting small, rehashing the start of the original, but they do intend expanding content beyond what they did with the last one. The problem is that many players seem to be enraged that you have to start the entire game from scratch, which I can't quite get. Yeah, I can understand on PC, but whenever any game is upgraded to the new console generation, you always have to start again from scratch. If I had Resident Evil 6 on the PS4, I wouldn't be able to use my PS3 save-file and continue from there. It also doesn't help the case that they are completely rebuilding the EGO system of powers and perks, and actually having classes that will effect interaction with the various EGO powers.

So if there are any current Defiance players out there, or those who don't play but may think of giving it a shot, what are your opinions on this?

Is this the same Defiance that was based on the SyFy TV show? I played it very briefly back when it first came out, I'm surprised it's still going. Wasn't the show cancelled years ago?

Yes it's the same Defiance, was interesting where factions and events from the show overlapped with the game and vice-versa.

It went from a paid MMO to free-to-play, but did remain quite popular after the show's demise.

Sorry about getting nitpicky, but technically it's not based on the show, they were actually developed together in unison as two different parts of the same world. They made a big deal out it when they were first coming out, because I think it was one the first times an MMO and a TV show had been developed together as equal halves of one big whole.
I honestly had no idea the was still around, I assumed it died out once the show was canceled.
I tried it for a little while once it went free to play, but I didn't get very far before I moved on to other things.
I really miss the show, I liked it a lot.

I thought the show had some interesting elements, and that the frikkin' game was boring and repetitive as hell. I mainly "play" games by watching my wife play them while I play/work on my laptop, and she loved it, but then she also loves some other boring repetitive games like "Destiny" so, eh. At least I get to watch her play the Assassin's Creed games, GTA, the story mode for Titanfall 2, etc. And she had mainly switched to the XBox One, so Defiance was a thing of the past. But, boy, oh, boy - am I SUPER f***ing STOKED about this Goddess forsaken Defiance 2050 thing. She's even in the beta program for what appears to be the same game she already had. F M L. :D

PLayed the original for a while and yesterday played the beginning of 2050...
The story might be the same but the missions are different...
In the original after your character crashes you fight monsters and at the end some mutants, now you start of right away with mutants...
4 new different classes and you can now pick all the races...
