I would first like to take this opportunity to thank Kazari for the entertaining challenge previously, you really gave us a juicy subject to deal with. Secondly I would express my appreciation and joy for my fellow competitors, you make this lover of the art that is language very proud to know you. Finally, I want to give my gratitude to everyone who voted for and commented on my story. To feed a Cardassian ego is a worthy cause Anyway, that's enough of the Oscars, let us away to the challenge! Your challenge this month, if you should chose to accept it, is to create a fanfic that is populated with only your own original characters. That is to say that the fanfic should not have any canonical personages from either the tv series, movies or trek literature nor can you use anyone from previous fanfictions that you have written before. Also you can't use AU or MryU versions of said characters either. (Just to make it a little bit more difficult). The story should take place in the trekverse but can take any form as long as the stipulation above is met. So any time, place or setting (although bonus points will be awarded for new locations), spectacle and drama is most welcome. I'm going to set the word limit at 7000 words, not as long as last time but hopefully long enough to get those creative juices flowing. The deadline will be the 2nd of Janunary 2011 at 12am central time. (I'd rather use a timezone that's beneficial for the vast majority of posters here but if someone can help me get the timing more convenient for everyone I would be most grateful to them) That's the challenge that I have set for you, any questions, complaints, gasps of horror? (howzat?)
hmm, thats a tough one, mate. but i like a good challenge just to clarify, there is no other requirement? no specific category? no specific era? only that new characters must be used. are previously used ships permitted? (the ship in question only appears as a wreckage)
Nope, the actual settings are your own. I would like to see tales set in unexpected and unique places or at least stories without our usual favorites in them. As for ships, I'll allow any existing ship classes to be used and any non-major vessel to make an appearance (as long as its not a central one), but no 'hero' ships please. (you know the ones I mean)
i know just the thing. FYI: the ship in question had a very, very, short appearance in one of my fanfics. basically, it explodes the moment the "heroes" arrive
Then go for it my man! And Gul Re'jal, I really hope that you do enter this challenge because I think that you'll come up with something interesting.
I intend to and my brain is working on it as we speak (err...write), but if I come up with something good--or anything at all --no guarantees. PS. Don't forget to post your story in Winning Entries Thread
Sounds like it could be a tough challenge but one that could prove very inspiring too. I've already started on a challenge response. Here's hoping it produces something. And if it doesn't it helps to get another project in the pipeline.
More or less. I'll allow canonical races and organsations as long as there isn't a character from either the onscreen or treklit fields. Although ideally I'd like new races, locations and ships... Would it be unseemly if I also entered the contest?
From scratch? Dang, Shand and Joe have been calling day and night to get another one of their tales written...
Got the idea, got the idea You can expect a story from me for this challenge, so prepare your innocent brains for my poor grammar
Looking forward to it! I'll have to see if I can enter. SigCat is out (AU Dukat and AU Lavelle are...well, AU versions of canon characters... ), as are any Macet, Daro, or Berat stories. Macet and Daro did get their one on-camera appearance, and Berat was originally from DS9 #6.
