'Death Wish' remake

Oh and how appropriate none of the Death Wish movies have been released on Blu-ray. You can bet that MGM will cash in when the remake is released that they will release the original film on Blu-ray a month before.
A little sooner than expected.

Death Wish II, Death Wish III, and Death Wish IV,

MGM brings the Death Wish movies to Blu-Ray

The original 'Death Wish' (a Paramount title) has yet to be announced for the format.
source Yep they are holding that one off.

The first Death Wish was, in my opinion, a good movie.

However, it's also a very dated movie.

And the first film worked because it came out at particular time when the country was very upset over rising crime rates, the perception that criminals were getting off on technicalities, etc. The film captured a moment in the public consciousness that made it something "more" than a typical action film.

Currently, however, we don't have rising crime rates and courts are not typically seen as "soft on crime" these days. In fact, politicians seem to want to criminalize or regulate everything.

As such, I don't see this remake as being anything particularly special or likely to spark any more interest than any other action film.

Bump!

As some of you may know, Joe Carnahan recently pitched his idea for a Daredevil reboot to Fox. This would have been a gritty, 70s-set thriller in the vein of Serpico, set in Hell's Kitchen (pre-gentrification). Fox declined and the rights to the Man Without Fear have reverted to Marvel and Disney. I strongly recommend that you look out Carnahan's sizzle reel for DD which he's now posted online; it had a very 70s, almost Tarantino-esque feel.

Anyway, seems Carnahan has shifted his focus away from Mr Murdock and back to Mr Kersey. Oddly (to me), he will not be making a movie like the aforesaid DD pitch but his DW remake will be modern (or aiming for a timeless feel) and will be set in LA, rather than New York.
