Death Valley zombie/vampire comedy on MTV

This one sure flew right under my radar. I remember reading about the concept, had no idea it had been picked up. It looks insane and hilarious and debuts right at the start of the fall season - 10:30 p.m., Monday, August 29.

Couldn't find the trailer on YouTube, but there's a trailer at that link.

MTV’s new horror-comedy “Death Valley.” The scripted series follows the ‘Undead Task Force’ (UTF), a newly formed division of the LAPD, documentary-style, as they capture the monsters that roam the streets of California’s San Fernando Valley. In a world where vampires, werewolves and zombies live freely, “Death Valley” is a fun, comedic non-stop thrill ride featuring chases, hardcore kills and bizarre encounters.

Guys will be happy to know that Alex from Lost is starring in this thing. (Okay, I like her too. :rommie:) And who can help but love a guy named "Texas Battle"? Decent number of hot guys in the cast, but I think Rico is going to be my favorite (for as as long as he lasts, I imagine the body count is going to be on the high side).

“Death Valley” stars Tania Raymonde (“Lost”), Bryan Callen (“The Hangover”), Caity Lotz (“Mad Men”), Bryce Johnson (‘Sleeping Dogs Lie”), Texas Battle (“Final Destination 3”, “Dragonball,” “Coach Carter”) and Charlie Sanders (Funny or Die’s “The Big Dog”).

can't wait for this to come out. thanks for posting this. mtv is finally putting something good. all so teen wolf fantastic new show as well

I'm slightly amazed it took this long for someone to tap into the innate hilarity of all the zombies and vampires on TV.

I'm so sick of vampires now, even though the only vampire show I watch is True Blood. I was watching the new season of True Blood just now and my eyes nearly rolled off their sockets when the two vampires showed up at Sookie's house as soon as she was back in the human realm. Why is there always a girl and two vampires? Why is the girl always annoying?

I find this genre so tired and spent that I think it's even pass the point of being parody-worthy. The jokes would be just too easy.

I've never watched Vampire Diaries but I easily surmised there were two vampires and an annoying girl from Trekbbs intel. I know this holds true for the movie franchise too but that is from my sixth sense.

I bet Sookie is more annoying. Someone should set up a poll.

Elena on Vampire Diaries is not particularly annoying. Certainly not even close to Bella on Twilight or Sookie on Trueblood.

MTV:

Ill-timed horror comedy:

Tania Raymonde: :bolian:

Werewolves: :mallory:

I'll give it a try.

MTV was great when it had shows like Beavis and Butthead, Remote Control, Singled Out (to an extent) and my personal favorite at the time, Liquid Television.

Oh and of course the music videos!

Okay the time has come. Anyone bothering to watch? Sounds like it's being successful at what it's trying to be, anyway.

With a pedigree one would find only on MTV (the idea came from Spider One, founder of the band Powerman 5000, and was written by Julie Kellman Reading and Austin Reading, who have produced, among other things, the various "Scream Awards" on Spike), "Death Valley" looks and sounds like it was made by a bunch of smart, nerdy high school sophomores who somehow persuaded a few actual actors to participate. Certainly, the blood and gore — magenta, sticky, probably medicinally sweet — appear to have been purchased directly off the back page of a Tales from the Crypt comic book.

But that's part of the fun. The setting of "Death Valley" is land of the "Super 8" fantasy, home to Steven Spielberg and the porn industry, where a video camera is a birthright. Here, a zombie/vampire/werewolf takeover is just another local situation, along with fire season, earthquakes, meth labs and prostitution.
