Death of the Easy Bake oven... no more young aspiring chefs.

Yeah, there is not a lot of uniformity in CFLs the way there is with incandescents. You have to investigate your options and figure out which CFL (or LED, for that matter) suits your needs best. They do make ones that produce yellow light similar to traditional bulbs.

My sister had an easy bake oven when we were kids and I remember liking the cake mixes she made. It would be interesting to sample one now.

My daughter has one. She's 9 now, a couple of years ago for my birthday she insisted on surprising me with cakes from her oven.

The shine on her face when she brought them to me was worth it. She was so proud of herself that she made them and that she kept the secret.

Didn't matter how they tasted.

I have a few of the CFLs and two have blown. I don't like the light they give off. I've tried both the warm and cool light ones.

That makes buying one totally worth it!

Absolutely. :techman:

We had the most awesome dangerous toys when I was a kid - power tool sets with blades that would cut pine and a variety of toy-making gadgets that used electrical heating elements (not light bulbs) to melt plastic. Got some wicked burns. :techman:

Lawn Darts. There's still a set in my mom's garage that we played with as kids. It's a wonder there weren't more stitches as a result.

I also remember carving molds out of wood, putting chunks of lead type in a can, melting it over a butane torch, and then pouring it into the mold to see how it came out.

I was so bummed out when they stopped making lawn darts. Family BBQs where never quite the same after that.

Ah yes, lead toy soldiers. An older kid who lived next door had a set of molds for those - they may actually have stopped selling them here by the time I was old enough to want some.

That is precious!

^I know. I'll get a big kick out of it when my daughter starts doing stuff like that. At least I hope she'll do stuff like that.

Well if she's anything like her mother I'm going to have to keep a close eye on her. :shifty:

That is a wonderful story! You brightened up my day with it. Thank you for sharing what must be a treasured memory. :)

Warmest Wishes,
Whoa Nellie
