DC Confirms Two Batmen in November

I wonder how long this concept will last?
At some point DC will reinstate the Nightwing character. So will it be under the Bat family or Supes family seeing the legacy is now tied to both families.

Perhaps Red Robin becomes Nightwing 2 leaving Damian the only Robin.

My guess is that this format will last during the remaining length of Grant Morrison's run on Batman which could last another two years. There was another article from last week that said that among the proposal board from Grant is maybe the 'greatest Batman story he's ever told'. I don't think we'll be seeing Dick returning as Nightwing anytime soon...at least not until after Grant is finish shaping and crafting the Bat Family. I don't see why Tim would take on another persona since he took Red Robin to distinguish himself from Damien and because he believed that the Robin mantle had been sullied enough. Taking on Dick's former moniker isn't just something that makes sense for Tim to do. Plus he's still dealing with Ra's and Talia's machinations in his own book right now to worry about anything else.

It's been a long time since I followed comics regularly, but I am familiar with the Damien character, as I bought some graphic novel compilation introducing him. But Grayson and Wayne as Batman? Does that mean they'll share the identity -- Bruce is Batman on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Dick is Batman on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and they flip a coin for Sunday? Sorry for my ignorance. It does sound interesting. Also sounds like it was inspired a bit by the old Sons of the Batman from Frank Miller's Return of the Dark Knight.

^ People have compared Grant's plans for Batman, Inc. to the Sons of the Batman from Dark Knight but I'm getting a feeling that it's going to be so much more than that. Yeah Damien was introduced in Grant's first story arc "Batman and Son" which featured Man-Bat Ninja's!!!

As for which books the two will be appearing in...the article states that Dick will be in "Detective Comics" and "Batman and Robin" while Bruce will be in "Batman, Inc." and the upcoming "Batman: Dark Knight".

I have some mixed feelings about this. I have really enjoyed Dick Grayson taking the mantle as Batman - it's the most enjoyable the character has been in a long, long time. And I'm really glad that he and Damian are sticking around.

But two characters with the same name has the potential to cause so much confusion. Of course the writers will find handy ways around it, but inevitably it will become messy.

Maybe Bruce would be the Gotham based Batman, while Dick would be the international Batman who interacts with the JLA and so on. Bruce has always had a sort of disdain for the teams and the aliens and the cosmic goofiness right? Plus Dick is just a social team player and connected to so many DC teams and characters.

I'm glad to hear this, if only for the fact that Dick Grayson will at least be remaining as Batman for a while longer.

@Mr. Light...Grant has stated that we will see Bruce travel the world while recruiting and training potential people in "Batman, Inc". James Robinson has also confirmed that his roster isn't being altered in "Justice League of America" so Dick will be Batman there as well. When Bruce returns he will be evaluating the status quo in the "Bruce Wayne: The Road Home" one shots and there's supposed to be some kind of arc involving Ra's as well. Dick will most likely be in Gotham and the Justice League while Bruce begins to implement his grand plan in "Batman, Inc."

The Nightwing identity was always tied to both Batman and Superman. Nightwing was the name of the bottle city of Kandor's Batman equivalent and Flamebird was their Robin. Superman and Jimmy Olsen became them when they visited Kandor.

Yep, the Nightwing name/identity has been around since the late 70's/early 80's and originated with Kandor.

More recently, Chris Kent, the son of Zod, who was briefly raised by Clark and Lois took the name, but he's back in the Phantom Zone, de-aged and it looks like the title's open again.

The pendulum at DC keeps swinging back and forth. At times they seem to want the original Titans to age and take the roles that they seem destined for, but, then DC withdraws and goes back to the originals. Just as DC does for the replacements, such as Kyle, Ryan Choi, etc.

Soon enough, they'll decide they want Bruce to appear younger, forcing Dick to give up the mantle and revert back to the former sidekick who's stuck between being a sidekick and taking over the role.

I think Chris Kent was whom Captain Canada was referring to when he said recently...and Grant Morrison has shown no indications of de-aging the characters, I know you were probably speaking facetiously but considering his views on characters ages I doubt we'll be seeing anything like that during his run.

I wasn't implying Morrison had any intentions of de-aging Dick or returning Dick to being Nightwing. I truly believe that Morrison intends to have his changes be permanent.

However, when Morrison has the reigns like this, the companies don't seem to know what to do once he's done with their toys. Marvel pretty much undid his work on X-Men instead of using most of the new status he set-up (with exceptions for things like keeping Jean dead).

I believe that DC, especially if the editorial staff changes, will not keep Dick as Batman after Morrison is done. Sooner or later, they'll want things back to "normal" and find a way to do it. I don't think they will de-age Dick physically, but more revert him to his previous status of being stuck between a sidekick and having the title.

Dick hasn't been Bruce's sidekick in years...Bruce considers Nightwing an ally and a man near his equal. We'll be seeing Bruce interact with Damien more when he returns which will be good.

Morrison has demonstrated a desire to reinstate the 'Batmen of many nations' concept. This may be what you have been calling 'Batman Inc.'

I love DC, I really do. But they don't have a concept that they can't find a way to de-unique. Bruce Wayne IS Batman, Dick Grayson is just a fill-in. And really, after years of being his own man, he deserves better than to be the fill-in Batman.

This move makes sense to me, and I don't see a problem.

There's multiple Flashes and many Green Lanterns, so why not two Batmen?
