Dax/Doctor Who In-Jokes?

As the only main character in Trek who has "regenerated," I seem to recall a few Doctor Who references popping up in her backstory. How many references/in-jokes are there to Doctor Who in Dax's life?

She had an early (1st?) host named "Lela," right? Ezri's pre-joined family name was "Tigan." Leela was a 4th Doctor companion, while Tegan Jovanka was a 4th/5th Doctor companion.

Am I missing anything?

I'm sorry, but I seriously doubt that the creators of the Trill had Doctor Who in mind. I'd simply put the similarities down to coincidence.

Actually dauntless, the writers of Star Trek have referenced Doctor Who on a couple occasions. The main one I know about is in TNG where the first six doctors were shown on screen (Their real names).

Doctor Who have also referenced Star Trek in the series, heavily in the episode "The Empty Child".

I don't see why this couldn't be a small reference to Doctor Who, although it's a little far fetched to be honest.

^I wouldn't go by Okudagrams, if I were you.

According to displays on the shows, the Enterprise-D is powered by a hamster wheel and Voyager lost a number of crewmembers during its trip to the Delta Quadrant named after characters from The West Wing.

Plus Claire Raymonds family tree int TNG's 'The Neutral Zone' which had the muppets as her ancestors.

Um, guys, of course these "facts" aren't meant to be taken seriously. That's why they're in-jokes! References in Okudagrams are usually the easiest way to sneak in an in-joke anyway.

I love the concept of "the creators of the Trill." It's like the Trill had their own Founders or Prophets or something.

Nah, the "creators of the Trill" are screenwriters (at least at the level of coming up with the names of Dax's previous hosts). Looking at Memory Alpha, it appears Lela was first mentioned (but maybe not named? I dunno?) in "Playing God," during the 2nd season (screenwriters Jim Trombella and Michael Piller), and presumably Ezri's family name was written by Thompson & Weddle for "Prodigal Daughter"? But, that's assuming these things don't get hashed out among a number of writers before the screenplays get written -- I just don't know how this stuff works, really.

And, perhaps far-fetched, but I have a hard time hearing the name "Leela" (or "Lela," in this spelling) without immediately thinking of the most famous use of the name in sci-fi circles. I mean, Doctor Who is what Futurama was swiping with the name, why not DS9? Especially given the similar "hey, you can recast me when I want off the show!" ability that an alien like Dax has within the context of the show's narrative. :D
