Complete GameSpot story here

David O. Russell (Three Kings, the upcoming The Fighter) will bring the video game to the big screen for Sony and Columbia Pictures. Everyone's trying to find the next Indiana Jones type of franchise, and recent efforts have included National Treasure, Tomb Raider and Sahara.

Rumors have immediately brought up Mark Wahlberg as the titular role of Nathan Drake since he seems to be the only actor who can tolerate working with Russell (three films now). Fanboys want Nathan Fillion, of course, probably because Malcolm Reynolds is a lot like Drake. Other names include Chris Evans, Chris Pine and Bradley Cooper. People also seem to think Bruce Campbell would be the ideal Sully. But it's all speculation at this point since there isn't even a script yet.

So for those of you familiar with the game, who would you like to see play which role?

^ I just want them to cast Emily Rose as Elena.

Fillion or Boreanaz would be my first picks to play Drake. Pine would also be a good choice.

And Bruce Campbell for Sully. ;)

Gah! No, please no Mark Wahlberg. He doesn't have the necessary snark for Drake. Fillion's an obvious choice, but he wouldn't get the role anyway. I'd be cool with either of the other three options presented.

Here we go: Flynn, Drake, Elena. ;)

The Uncharted games are above average, but while their plots and framing devices attempt to mimic a big budget Hollywood movie, I think any honest critique of the plot or dialogue would come to the conclusion that it's rather derivative and predictable.

"Really good for a video game" still doesn't mean much, even in 2010. Can't say I'm excited about a movie that will probably "dumb down" a video game that isn't too bright to begin with.

Mark Wahlberg is way too old to play Drake, but then again so is fan-favorite Nathan Fillion. According to his bio, Drake was born in 1982, so he's only in his mid-to-late twenties in Uncharted and Uncharted 2. I don't like the idea of De Niro as Sully, either. And who the heck would Pesci be playing?

What's this stuff about "antiquities dealers in New York"? What's wrong with the story from the first game?

Then again, from the way things are sounding so far, maybe it's better if they don't do a straight-up adaptation of the games. Easier to ignore the movie that way.

They be better off starting with Uncharted 2 story due to the stronger side characters like Chole and just re tool the Nathan/Elena relationship.

It's all rumors right now, of course, but the latest one is that this movie is going to follow the path of The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum in that it will be Uncharted: Drake's Fortune in name only, that Russell is taking the characters and writing the script from the ground up.
