Datalore

I am currently watching G4 and Datalore is on. I just noticed that when Data was holding up the head of Lore there are no ears attached. Years later, before Data and Picard went to Romulus to find Spock Dr. Crusher asked Data if his ears could be removed. He responded by saying they were fully intergrated components. Maybe Lore was different in construction. I wish the writers would have noticed.

I haven't seen this episode in years. It sure makes the crew look like dummies. Wouldn't they be the least the least bit suspicious? How many times to Wesley have to save the ship for them to listen to him?

I've actually made a thread about this before. Yes, Data and Lore are supposed to be identical in construction. Inconsistencies suck.

Of course, if Data's ear was removable he might not have been injured as badly in Thine Own Self... unless he was hit just behind the ear... Either way it would've revealed something. (Meh, kinda off topic there.)

I'll just chalk it up to being early in the series. The characters will still undefined, especially Picard, who came off like a jerk.

...It could of course be that some of the components shown in "Datalore" are not removable after first installed. We know Data's right arm can be detached with ease, although this is only seen when he is on shutdown mode. We also know his head can operate independently to a degree, but this is only seen when catastrophic damage has severed the head from the body. Nothing indicates the ears could be routinely dismounted (in the style of the eye implant of a certain Narn ambassador and pervert-in-residence) or even torn out of the skull with power tools.

And it's not as if our heroes trust Lore in the episode, or even buy his Data imitation. Quite to the contrary, they are suspicious of basically every move he makes, and always assign a chaperon to him. It just turns out that Worf isn't good enough a chaperon in this case.

As for not listening to Wesley... That's something of a given. All he ever does is naïvely spell out the unvoiced suspicions of the grown-up crew, thereby unnecessarily risking alerting Lore to these doubts.

Worf frequently got his ass kicked in seasons one and two (season three was a mixed bag).

No, actually Wes realized that Lore was impersonating Data and Picard refused to listen. And the adults come across as arrogant fools. Why Wesley did just blurt out THAT IS NOT DATA, THAT IS LORE! Then Lore would've kicked everyone's ass on the bridge. So...it was a lousy episode due to characterization.

Is it? Riker famously detaches his hand in "The Measure of a Man" while he is still active, saving turning him off for his punchline.
