Data got Riker's hair wrong?!

Just watched Unification I/II after not having seen it for a long time. Still such great episodes, and I dare say a much more interesting Spock story than we got in Star Trek '09. The convo between Spock and Data about their life choices is superb.

But who thought up the "Data got Riker's hair wrong" idea? Jeez.

Also, does anyone else feel that the Sela character really never lived up to the potential of the concept?

I think the Sela concept was a bad one, done just to find a way to shoehorn Denise Crosby back into the show she so quickly abandoned.

I don't necessarily hate the character, but it could have been done better.

My favorite part is when Sela is saying something about her job and Data suggests she find a different job. She gives him the dirty look to end all dirty looks.

I think the Sela concept was an interesting one. That said I think it was poorly realized from the start. I don't know if it was the writing or just Denise Crosby's poor-as-piss acting but Sela was a complete misfire. Man, do I wish Jenette Goldstein had gotten the part.

They had time constraints and had to make sure the generalities were correct, working on the details last if time permitted.

The hair was obviously last on the list, but they had to run the program when the Romulans entered.

Simple. :)

I like to think that Data built the hologram based upon an image in the Romulans' computer... and for whatever reason the the Romulans took a picture of Riker on a really bad hair day.

Yeah, probably just a time issue, and having to focus on getting other things correct, meant sacrificing time on a specific like that. It might also be true that they had records on some of the ENT-D crew, and Data worked from their templates, to save time

I didn't think the Sela concept was entirely bad, just poorly executed, and frankly, I never thought Crosby was all that great of an actress, to begin with
