Data and The Doctor

Captain Muz

Cadet
Newbie
Hey guys first post.

There something thats always been on my mind. How could Lewis Zimmerman create a program (The Doctor) and have it be sentient from having simple emotions to developing hobbies (golf), YET Data another sentient being can walk around try to develop his humanity but is considered so hard to mimick.

they seem very similar, why cant someone just build a a machine and upload the doctors programme into it and boom you have a another artificial sentient being :bolian: ??? :klingon:

Because they're both different forms of technology made for different reasons. Data was designed to be an artificial life form. He was alive and free to grow and learn and live however he wanted. Data chose to be like humans and tried to learn their ways as best he could.

The Doctor was designed from the get-go to mimic humans as closely as possible. Then later he was given the ability to grow and learn and do whatever he wanted.

Also: Welcome:)

No it wasn't.

Simp human panty-waist wishy-washy milksop hippy sentimentality on and off camera are transferring unfounded expectations of an emotional spectrum on that piece of tick tock hardware invented to trick Optimistic doe eyed puppies into feeling at ease when a collection of colourized forcefields are cupping their junk while asking them to turn their head an cough of turning a pap smear into a Fantastic Voyage.

Zimmerman probably decided to ape the Data experience to help the crew get-off. Which doesn't mean that it grew as the show went on, but that the program stopped limiting itself gradually throughout the course the show to "entertain" the crew, and then there's the recycling factor to consider, that if every effort and growthspurt or evolution scripted by Barclay YEARS earlier, in its character or abilities were triggered and premeditated by how bored the crew was, then most obviously the Doctor would do-over the same emotional struggles over and over again, whenever it notices a sampling of crew that hasn't been through a particular scenarion/expreience already.

Everything it ever did with Kes, that we saw on camera, it did all the same again with Seven of Nine off camera, the same as any new user starting the same holonovel after the settings have been respawned back to zero.
