Data ages according to TNG "Inheritance "...episode

Dar70

Vice Admiral
Admiral
....so why the need to kill him off a second time or even show his image as a very badly de-aged Brent Spiner?? They could have improved b4 to hold datas memories and artificially age him. I dont know why they made such a big deal about Spiner aging that he felt he couldnt play Data anymore. It's right there in TNG that he ages.

The de-aged Spiner was necessary in this series because when we see Data it's in Picard's dreams and he's remembering Data as he was, during the movie era in the dream in the opening scene of the premiere and during the sixth season in the dream where he's painting the Daughter picture.

In the finale, it's a copy of Data taken when he downloaded his memories into B-4 in Nemesis, thus de-aged Spiner again.

Data gets killed twice because Spiner wished it. That's all there is to it.

I always thought the reason Spiner wanted him killed was becasue he couldnt pull off a young Data any longer. The episode Inheritance proves Datas looks change as he ages. Or at least he can do it if he wishes. I wish they went this route and didn't kill Data again. Plus I'm still freaked out at the bad CGI data (they could not get a damn hairline correct?) as well as Spiners performance. Hes too monotone this time playing data. No snappiness. Probably due to his age.

The problem is that one throwaway line is contradicted many times in other episodes of TNG. Heck, in one episode Data has an entire conversation about how he’s going to outlive all his friends, then make more friends, and outlive them too. We also see him in the future segment of AGT and he hasn’t aged at all. So the ‘Inheritance’ line is best left ignored.

It's a lot easier if you look at it as it's possible for him to age. Not that he does or doesn't, just that he can if he wants. He has an aging program, he can shut it off or modify it.

Better tell that to Brent Spiner. ;)

"he doesn’t age" - does that include appearances and material aging? where's the source?

No it doesn't, because that's not what the OP was talking about. He was talking about Data aging just like a regular human ages, which was contradicted by at least the two instances I mentioned.

From "Time's Arrow:"

Data: I have often wondered about my own mortality, as I have seen others around me age. Until now, it has been theoretically possible that I would live an unlimited period of time. And although some might find this attractive, to me it only reinforces the fact that I am... artificial.

LaForge: I never knew how tough this must be for you.

Data: Tough? As in difficult?

LaForge: Knowing that you would outlive all your friends.

Data: I expected to make new friends.

LaForge: True.

Data: And then to outlive them as well.

highlight where it is said that he cannot age in appearance or that his parts don't age physically.

I don't have to. It's implied in the conversation, and I don't need to be spoon-fed the specifics.

or that his parts don't age physically.

Nobody said his parts don't age physically. But as I mentioned before, that's not what's being discussed here.

True he did not age In AGT. But was that not a real timeline. Plus Data did allow himself a streak of grey. Perhaps he can control it. But still that one line was a good out for Spiner to come back.
