Darren Aronofsky will direct Machine Man

Darren Aronofsky will direct the Mandalay Pictures adaptation of Max Barry's Machine Man, reports Variety.

The project, to be scripted by Mark Heyman (who co-wrote Aronofsky's Black Swan alongside John McLaughlin) will adapt Barry's story, which originally appeared on the author's website in serial form with a single page released each day as it was written.

Machine Man, not to be confused with the Marvel Comics character, concerns a tech engineer who, tired of going through life average and unnoticed, replaces parts of his body with titanium upgrades of his own design. He then discovers that he isn't the only one with plans for his new body.

Looks like Hollywood is getting on the Iron Man bandwagon.

It should be noted that he'll be directing this after "Wolverine 2". As I said in the "Roboapoclyapse" thread Hollywood is on a robot binge right now. The entire manuscript for the book is indeed on the author's website.

So when will we get the teenage robot angst movie set in the backdrop of zombie robots and/or vampire robots? :)

Good Lord, they are going to adapt every comic ever made. I think if I was trying to break into scriptwriting I'd try to break into it via the comic industry these days.

I just want Robert Downey Jr to play Dr Strange before he gets too old! If the Human Torch can be Captain America, why can't Iron Man be Dr Strange?!

Again as Dream posted the article clarifies this isn't "Machine Man" the Marvel comic...sigh. After "Inception" I think Leo DiCaprio would be a great unconventional choice to play "Dr. Strange".

Leo is too much of a pretty boy. He also looks nothing like Strange IMO.

Tony Stark and Dr Strange could almost be twins seperated at birth which is why I suggest RDJ. Someone needs to make this happen!:techman:

If you dyed Leo's hair brown and he grew himself a goatee like the one he has in "Inception" I think he could be a great Stephen Strange. Robert Downey Jr. is already too identified right now with Iron Man and a central figure in the Marvel Film Universe for him to play another major role which Dr. Strange would be if they treated the role and the film right.

Because no one cares about the FF movies, and Chris Evans is definitely not Robert Downey Jr. They also aren't making any more films in that series, and they have no tie in with the current Marvel film series as it leads up to The Avengers movie.

RDJ is Iron Man right now, and having him play another Marvel hero on top of that role or any time in the foreseeable future just isn't going to happen.

wasnt Aronofsky going to do the Robocop remake? Maybe the studio didnt like his ideas & he found another similar project where he could be free to explore his concepts more without interference from a studio.
