Darn it, I like 2 Broke Girls!

I watched this show for the first time a few weeks ago, and just thought it was awful. Kat Dennings can't deliver a one-liner to save her life, in fact nobody on the show really has that good of comic timing. Let alone the fact that most of the jokes are telegraphed early on...

But darn it all, I really like the show! I'm not even sure why, OK OK, it might have a little bit to do with the fact that Kat Dennings is unbelievably hot. But besides that, the show has a certain charm to it, I even dig the background music.

And any show that gives Garret Morris more to do than he did in all his years on SNL is worth watching :)

ETA: Oops, posted this in the wrong forum :o

It's always interesting discovering a new show. I've watched nearly all of the series thus far, but it's been largely underwhelming. I'm still giving it a shot, but I probably won't renew my season pass for a second year.

I like the music too. It's apparently "Second Chance" by Peter, Bjorn and John (according to a Yahoo! Answers thread). The video is amusingly odd, yet straightforward.

I think the two leads are fine and generally funny. Those are two big pluses (or four, if you count parts of Kat Dennings' body — heyooh!).

The show has huge downsides, including the fact that nearly the rest of the cast has to speak with annoying, over-the-top foreign accents that contribute absolutely nothing to the comedy. A lot of the episodes set up a situation for the girls to be in, but then doesn't deliver on the jokes.

They also go out of their way to repeat the key characteristics of Max and Caroline nearly every episode (this may be expected early in the series, but it's getting a little old).

I've been reading the weekly reviews on AVClub.com. IIRC, I generally agree with reviewer Todd VanDerWerff's recent conclusions that "2 Broke Girls" may evolve into a passable sitcom, but it doesn't seem to be capable of reaching for true comedy genius. I also appreciated VanDerWerff's analysis of the most recent episode and pointing out how sort-of jokes typically remain in place.

When i started watching it i nearly quit after a few episodes due to the bad stereotypes of the diner staff.. the small, confused asian / the horny cook / the black guy from the cash register.

All these are only there for cheap laughs about the stereotypes but i stuck around because occasionally it is funny and both leading ladies are nice eye candy.

It has gotten a little better over time but those cheap stereotypes still get on my nerves sometimes.. it will most likely never become a true classic like MASH, Cheers, Friends and such but it's ok to pass 22 minutes a week and be entertained.

Don't Trust The B---- In Apartment 23 is better! (And yes, you have to type it like that.)

We watched about 8 episodes... and then sorta went... meh. It as fine, but it was never really going anywhere. I'm sure it'll go one for years and years with just enough people watching to keep it on, like that David Spade sitcom... Rules of Engagement?

Heh. I saw this thread and immediately thought "he likes it because Kat Dannings is hot" and sure enough:

Ah, men...even our humor gene is ruled by the little brain.

The two leads are very nice to look at. You get a nice variety there.

The humor is hit and miss. Very lowest common denominator.

That show is messed up.

True true :) I do find her delivery of jokes odd, but in a "I want to see what she says next" kind of way.

At the end of every episode they show how much money the girls saved up. I think they're going somewhere with that.

[Edit] Found the following at Wikipedia...

...at the end of each episode, a tally shows how much they have made toward their goal of $250,000 needed to open their business.

Oh, I know. It's a nice conceit. But that's all that it really is. They'll make some money, lose some money, but they won't ever really MAKE any money. It's called Two Broke Girls for a reason.

And by anywhere, I just meant as characters, with it's humor. It's just... meh. Every episode sorta blended into each other, never really getting funnier as they found themselves... just... the same, always the same. Like Whitney.

Voyager should have done the same thing at the end of each episode details their miles from home. ;)

I saw it and thought it was a thread about Aldo having a crush on two real life broke girls and once again seeking our advice on what to do about it. :p

There are two big reasons why 2 Broke Girls is a hit. And it's not lost on the writers who have included more than a few boob jokes. If the show ever starts sinking to the point of being in danger of cancellation, watch for the cleavage to come out a bit more frequently.

That said, I have nothing against the show. The two leads have good chemistry and the show has an old-school feel. Put the boob jokes aside and it would probably sit alongside Rhoda and the like quite well. Which is probably the problem, but then sitcoms in general have been losing favor with a lot of people as being outdated and studio-bound.

What I find amusing about the show is how it's getting some folks all up in arms over the so-called racist humor. I'm not going to start a debate over who is right or wrong here. I just find it interesting that a little show like this drums up such huge controversy. Kat Dennings could take her top off every episode and fewer people would complain than they do when Garrett Morris makes a joke.

I like that, you're right it does have an old school feel to it.

Too many sitcoms nowadays go single camera and forego the studio audience I like it when shows like this still embrace the old format.

Rules of Engagement is dumb but it's a darn sight better than 2 Broke Girls or that other "comedy" Rob. If those 2 shows come on and I don't have anything better to do I watch old reruns of Seinfeld on demand.

I suffer through 2 Broke Girls once a week because my girlfriend likes it. The show is simply pathetic. I find more entertainment going through the phone book looking for funny names. Finding "Pinky Goldstein" made me laugh harder than anything I've ever seen on 2 Broke Girls. Piss poor writing and acting. Better shows have been cancelled mid-season.
