Dark Territory: Last Stand

DarKush

Dark Territory: Last Stand started out as a November challenge entry, but it turned out to be longer and not quite in keeping with the challenge's topic. Nevertheless, I hope you enjoy reading about the fate of Commander Deitra Glover, the mother of Captain Terrence Glover from my Dark Territory series.

Thanks again to David Falkayn for posting this. I hope you all enjoy.

Thanks for reading Nerys. Yes, that's Seven. This story is based in large part from her mention of Ensign Stone in "Infinite Regress".

Oh that was edgy especially the last line -
from the outset you knew it wasn't going to turn out good for the crew but still to be assimilated by their own!! [Though how quick would an assimiliated drone be sent out on a mission ? but for the spine chillingly good end I would oversee that - Jean Luc was turned around fairly quick when I come to think of it.

Great story about a character we've heard much about but seen very little of.

I thought you really captured the pre-TNG era pretty well. These guys were still pure explorers, going out there to make first contacts and learn more about the universe. They believed they were prepared for whatever they might encounter, alas ...

Oh and now we know where Terrence got his swagger from.

I'm glad this story is getting a lot of positive reviews. It was definitely fun to write. I had been trying to come up with a proper vehicle to write Terrence's mom since I first mentioned her in "Valley of Peace" and first portrayed her in "The Needs of the One".

CeJay, Terrence is definitely his mother's son. I thought it would be nice if he got his style came more from his mother, and deep down, his desire to please her-due to her frequent duty related absences-more than his scholarly, and somewhat bookish, father.

Mirandafave,

I do understand your concerns, but there is a precedent for quick turnarounds-Lt. Hawk from "First Contact", Janeway, Tuvok, and Torres, too.

Nerys,

I'm glad you felt I got the creepiness right. I was aiming for the feel of "Q Who" and "Renegeration", when the our adversaries came across as more menacing because they were unknown.
