Dark Shadows' Jonathan Frid has died

He must have seen the new movie!

Bur seriously, sad news. I was a small-f fan of the show, but it was a classic piece of American pop culture.

RIP Jonathan.

I'm glad he was able to do his cameo for the new Dark Shadows movie before passing away.

Sad to hear it. I remembering seeing him in person at a DS convention in Manhattan back in the eighties . . . .

Anybody else remember his non-speaking part in The Devil's Daughter? Or the time he guest-starred with the cast of The Ghost and Mrs. Muir to promote ABC's new fall lineup?

Very sad news. I met Mr. Frid at a convention in Louisville years ago (the only fan con I've ever attended). I invited him to come and see a play at the theatre I worked for at the time and he accepted. A great thrill for me, who'd been a fan of his when I was a boy. Such a charming, dignified, kind man.

RIP, Jonathan.

Oh, very sad! Loved Dark Shadows as a kid and I always liked his portrayal of the character. With the new movie coming out I did some reading recently to catch up with him to see how he was doing. Sad news indeed.

It's sad news, but also it's great to hear that he was included in the movie. I'm sure they'll probably add some sort of dedication to the end credits (most moviegoers won't know the name so they won't put anything at the start of the film). Sad to say I actually didn't know he was still with us until I'd read about him filming the cameo. :(

Sadly, I've already had two people ask me today "Who was Jonathan Frid?"

Back when Buffy was still in production I had hoped he would do a cameo appearance.

I loved Dark Shadows as a kid and will have fond memories of the adventures of Barnabas Collins. RIP Mr Frid and thanks.

What a shame. :( I loved him as Barnabas Collins-- such great memories of surreptitiously watching Dark Shadows in the afternoon (my mother forbid me to watch it, but Uncle Mike would let me watch at his place).

RIP, Mr Frid. I wish you were as eternal as your alter ego.

And I've seen more than a few "WTF is Dark Shadows" comments since the movie was announced. Which I suppose may be OK for the movie as it'll be new to a lot of people.

It's a shame that folks don't know their TV history. I'll confess I've never seen a single episode of Dark Shadows - and I'm not that overly interested in it, to tell truth, though I might check out some of the Big Finish audios featuring Doctor Who actor co-starring with DS performers - but even I know who Jonathan Frid is, that Dark Shadows was a popular supernatural soap opera, and that Barnabas Collins was basically doing the Angel thing when David Boreanaz was still in Pampers.

PS. One reason I'm hesitant to get into DS now is knowing me I'll become obsessed with it and I really don't need to be shelling out 500 clams on that 1200-episode DVD set! ;)
