Daily walk and scavenger hunt

Miss Chicken

i have my Fitbit, my camera and my copy of ‘The Packet Scavenger’ by Keri Smith. Though the book gives me many things to look I would like a ‘Trekbbs Challenge List’ and welcome people’s suggestions of what I could collect or take photos on my walks. These, for the most part, will be surburban walks but that includes my local beaches. Occasionally I might go on a camera shoot out of the city.

I will make a list of birds to photograph and I will try to photo the numbers 1to 100 (no house numbers allowed).

So suggestions, please. Things that are not on the checklist below. Also feel free to join the Scavenger Hunt either with pictures you have already taken that are listed in the checklist below. If you seriously want to join me buy the books :)

It looks like the only thing not on the list was "flying saucer/spaceship," though "imaginary"
is so all is covered.

Good Luck!

Lightning,,, or lightning in the sun in a sun shower ,, I have heard this thunder during sun showers but ,, I don’t remember the lightning...

One of my biggest photographical regrets is deciding not to walk down to my local beach one New Years Eve a few years ago to take photos of the Children’s Fireworks display. My reasoning was that I had taken photos of them, and also the midnight fireworks, before and besides it looked like it might rain.

As the fireworks started so did a thunderstorm. I could have taken a picture of lighting and fireworks together. There was an amazing photo printed in out local newspaper of it.

We do not get many thunderstorms in Hobart, not when compared to Sydney or Brisbane. I will put lightning on my list however, I might get lucky.

I started my morning walk at 6.30 am and arrived home a bit after 8.00am. I managed to make over 10000 and, according to my Fitbit I walked 7.46 km (4.6 Miles). the last time I did 10000 steps in one walk was more than two years ago.

Because I had forgotten to charge its battery I didn’t take my camera with me and, of course I saw things I would have like to take a photo of. I saw a group of galahs playing silly buggers by hanging from the power lines and swinging. I saw a very pretty red hen clucking around on someone’s front lawn. I saw the biggest forest raven I have ever seen.

I picked up a broken balloon on the beach so that it would not get into the water where it could be swallowed by some marine creature. It isn’t the first time I have found and removed a balloon from this beach. I bought the balloon home and glued into my Pocket Scavenger under ‘Something that is Broken or Damaged’.

This Pockt Scavenger sounds like an interesting book =) Definitely something to go on my b-day wishlist.

I've been collecting manhole covers for decades. You wouldn't believe how pretty the manhole covers in some towns are. Here are a few examples:

My cousin does that and posts them to Instagram. He's a head electrician on Broadway touring shows so he's usually in a different city every 2-3 weeks. It's usually one of the first things he posts when he gets to a new place. There hasn't been as much variety lately since the show he's on is doing longer runs in most cities. And, no, he can't get you tickets. ;)

I will have to look and see what manhole cover look like here I doubt that they are beautiful like these.

I decided that I will try and take a photo of Mount Wellington on every Friday for a year from the same spot but not always at the same time of day. I was a bit disappointment with today’s photo as the Mountain is totally obscured by cloud.

I took a photo of the number 69. Pity it is graffiti that ruins the look of the bench.

And here are some galahs.

I should be able to get a much nicer picture of some galahs as they are one of the most common birds in my neighbourhood.

The Mountain could be seen today. It is about 28 km away by road from where I took the photo., about 14km in a straight line.

btw I am fond of a man-hole cover from time to time // very excellent stuff. there...

Rubbish is fine by me. I just realised how little rubbish I see on the beaches near me, I am not sure if that is due to people picking up after themselves, the council cleaning up, or early morning walkers picking things up. There is usually some rubbish on a couple of the roads leading to the beaches.

Three photos. One of the Mountain, one of Howrah Beach and the last of a Little pied cormorant. Yesterday I managed 16,000 steps, the day before 15,000. One Sunday I will try to do a three beach walk (Bellerive, Howrah, and Little Howrah).

@think there are a ton of garbage photos on my, now retired, blog. I haven't been posting many photos of late in the bbs because it's a pita to do so from the phone, can't seem to find a phone app that works easily. I swear imgur looks different every time I use it and I can't find the setting for bbcode most of the time.

@Miss Chicken those are beautiful, the beach is amazing! I have never been to Tassie :(

Can you walk to the beach or do you have to take transport there?

I was worried about getting enough steps into because I was taking the cat to the vet. I dropped him off by taxi and then I decided to go to Eastlands Shopping Centre. As the walk straight to Eastlands from the vet, and another walk from home to the vet later in the day to pick up Spider would only be about 7000 steps I decided to walk to Eastlands via the Bluff thinking this would make up about an extra 3000 steps.

The walk around the Bluff was a lot longer than I remembered and I was at 8500 steps when I hit Eastlands. By the time I did some shopping and caught the bus home I was over my 10,000 steps.

I got a phone call at 1pm telling me I could pick Spider up at three. I left home at 2.30 to go to the vet and it seems the vet phoned my landline a couple of minutes later to tell me Spider was still very groggy and wasn’t ready to be picked up. I arrived there and talked to the vet and was given Spider’s medication and someone is going to bring him to my place around 6pm.

So I walked back home and my step count is now at 19,118 which is 13.34km.
