Been trying to think of anything I want to see less than a nuTrek/primeTrek crossover. Nope, I got nothing...

^Well, the one canonical Abramsverse story that exists so far is a crossover, due to Spock Prime's presence. So you already have seen one. (Though I can predict the response to that...)

Anyway, I think the thread starter meant to say "Crossovers in Trek Lit: Yea or Nay."

nuKirk played by Pine and original Kirk, also played by Pine, getting to meet each other. That's a concept I'd like to see realized.

Kirk stood behind the transporter console looking at a figure who claimed to be him standing on the platform just a few feet away and one thought came to mind, "What a douchebag!".

:guffaw:

Ok, no more cross overs. Especially if they concern primeSpock running around the nuTrek universe. The point of the plot of the movie to was to create a fresh start. If you're going to start having primeSpock showing up all the time it sort of defeats the purpose. As far as I'm concerned, postDeath Spock is the most overused character in Treklit and I would hate to see nuTrek polluted in the same way.

I was really responding to Mr. Laser Beam, just forgot to quote him.

Greg Cox's Abramsverse novel was going to feature Spock Prime.

I will be buying that book when it comes out, I'm assuming they will at some point, but I'm just saying how I feel. I think Spock is overused in the postTOS books in the prime universe and I hope the same thing doesn't happen in nuTrek. I know the film makers left him in nuTrek universe but that doesn't mean he needs to be used all the time.

Well, one book out of four -- or out of seven, counting the YA Academy books that have been commissioned to date -- doesn't strike me as "all the time."

I can't belive I haven't posted here yet, but I love crossovers, as long as they make sense. Like Destiny for example, it made perfect sense to me that we would be seeing something that big from so many different perspectives.

I can see having the different crews handling different parts of a huge event like Destiny. When you get the hero crews working together and being the only ones who come up with the solutions is where it feels small universe to me.

Vanguard is doing things well with the crews of the (late) Bomaby, Sagittarius and the Endeavour being substantial parts of the plot while keeping the primary spotlight on the crew of Vanguard.

I find that crossovers are like a great equalizer, putting all of these characters from different series into perspective of one another. The Destiny Series in my opinion captured this perfectly, allowing the reader to tie up all the threads from multiple series. While i agree this approach should be used sparingly, i do not find it unrealistic. I quite understand that starfleet is massive but who else would you send to deal with a great threat other than the Enterprise, the flagship, and Titan with it's prototype sensors simply notices things others ships wouldn't and the Aventine with the slipstream can just get to places faster than anyone else. It just seems logical to me. They all have their strengths and fortunately I think the authors truly play to those strengths of each particular ship and dont force them to do too much individually.

And let me point out that when I said I wanted to see a prime/Abrams crossover, I was NOT referring to (or even thinking about) Spock Prime.

So long as the crossovers stay to the main plot its worth it. Having the Aventine do one thing while the enterprise does another and seeing what DS9 is up to during a specific conflict isnt bad at all. I wish DS9 would have said what Enterprise crew ship or not was doing during the dominion war.
side note-> there needs to be a tie in with the "abramsverse" and the prime timeline. Maybe Spock finds his way back to prime timeline or the Temporal Cops try to undo what happened? Lots of possibilites with the two.

Don't see either one happening for a long time, if ever.

If you send Spock back to the prime universe he can't be used for stories in the "abramsverse". I don't think anybody at Bad Robot or Pocket is going to agree to that. And is Bad Robot really going to green light a novel that tries to undo what they've set up?
