"Crossover" and Mirror Sisko's Motivation

Any thoughts on why the mirror universe Sisko suddenly decided to join forces with Kira and Bashir? It's a fantastic episode with great atmosphere, but I find Sisko's about face too much of an unmotivated surprise.

Mirror Sisko is basically a hired leg breaker or privateer of the Intendant. It can't be a particularly safe or really even pleasant career.

He's a bitter rogue, but not without a conscience.
