Inspired by Geography King on YouTube (who compared US states and Canadian provinces and territories), I've decided to do my own March Madness-style competition but with TNG. Since there are 176 episodes, I'm splitting things up the following way: 2 64-seed brackets and 1 48-seed bracket. I'm going to base the seedings on IMDB user rating.
For this tournament, I’ll be rewatching all of the episodes. I've already seen all TNG episodes at least once (some multiple times), so I'm most interested in starting with the 'middle-rated' episodes, which would be episodes 65 to 128, based on IMDB rating. My rationale is that the bottom-rated episodes will be the least interesting to get through, and I suspect that the top-rated episodes may be relatively more predicable compared to the middle-rated episodes. We'll see though!
I think Geography King really did have a good format in several ways. He used categories to compare each seed, and the winner was determined by a 'best of seven' series. I've listed the categories I'm thinking of using below:
1. Major characters [includes characterization]
2. Special guests/minor characters [includes characterization]
3. Setting
4. Plot [includes conflict and resolution]
5. Theme
6. Rewatch value
7. Best moment
8. Worst moment
9. Importance in TNG overall canon
10. Continuity errors, other types of errors, oddities, etc. [sources: IMDB and Memory Alpha]
11. US viewers in millions [source: Wikipedia]
12. Awards and nominations [source: Wikipedia]
13. Best overall online user ratings [source: average of IMDB and ratinggraph.com]
For things that can be scored, I will score things on a A to F scale, including +s and -s.
My questions for everyone:
1. Are there other categories you can think of?
2. Do you think any of the categories I included should not be used?
3. Are there other online user rating websites for TNG? If so, what are they?
My plan is to watch one episode each day, so (hopefully) every second or third day I’ll post the comparison of categories for each match-up. I’m going to wait several days before beginning this tournament because I want to get people’s feedback on all of this, especially in case I missed anything obvious.
I’ve posted a rough draft of the bracket below. I’ll start a new thread and a better-looking bracket once I feel I have enough feedback.
Upper bracket [below]:

Lower bracket [below]:

The first match-up will be the #1 seed “The Survivors” [season 3] against the #64 seed “Firstborn” [season 7].
I'd appreciate everyone's feedback, for a few reasons: I'd like to make this tournament as comprehensive as possible, and I'd like this to be a thread where we can talk about TNG.
