Criminal Minds 1/21 - Blatant Racism

Are you fucking kidding me? Gypsies stealing children?!?
What's next on Criminal Minds - Jews commiting human sacrifice? Africans practicing cannibalism?

That's unbelievable. How can the producers of a mainstream tv-show perpetuate such an old racist cliché??

I'm done with this show. That was appalling.
Apparently antiziganism is socially accepted racism in the USA. Unbelievable.

The story starts out with a family consisting of mother, father and 10-year-old son about to commit some crime, which turned out to be kidnapping a girl who's the same age as the son and killing her parents. They first brought the girl to their RV (), but soon dump her alive (after discussing killing her) because she had an epileptic seizure.
The girl was found and told the FBI what happened, who conveniently figured out that the word the mother called her son by was Rumanian (), after which they quickly found the family's trail to a campsite (), where they found evidence, that they are very superstitious (dropping broken glass everywhere, whatever that means) ( )and that they make a living stealing stuff. ( )

Then the FBI finds DNA evidence on the blanket the first kidnapped girl was wrapped in, and *shocker* finds out that it's the DNA of a girl who was kidnapped 30 years ago or so; after further investigation they realise that these crimes - kidnapping girls and killing the parents - have been going on since 1909 and that the girls are kidnapped for breeding purposes. ( )

Whatever. In the end the mom gets caught shoplifting ( ) but manages to tell her son something in prison in Rumanian, which as a final *shocker* turns out be that apparently he has a number of brothers who are still out there commiting that sort of crime...


Can you pack more racist stereotypes into a single episode of a tv show? That's like fucking Birth of a Nation...

I've been a bit disappointed with this show this season. We're only a few episodes through in New Zealand (like three or four).

The first one - resolution to the random murders in New York - was pretty good, but after that it got a bit silly. The one with the star sign killer was so predictable even I managed to guess the entire plot half way through.

Then the one I watched last night featuring Luke Perry and the oh-so-overdone cliched religious sect with guns was really dire. The trailer for next week seemed to be some hotel that kidnaps people...

I hope they pick up their game.
