Creed II

I guess it was inevitable.

Creed II Trailer debuts Wednesday.

While I enjoyed Creed, I had almost completely forgotten about it.. I had no idea a sequel was actually in the works.
But I fear they are swaying WAAAAY into Rocky Land with the plot.. Couldn't it just be about the fighter taking his next steps in defending his title. This just seems a little too outlandish. That said... it will probably take my money at some point.

I enjoyed Creed since I'm a Rocky fan. But like Ryan Coogler's other hit Black Panther, I think the rash of 3.5 and 4-star reviews it got, along with the huge praise it got (including Oscar talk), was just a bit overblown. Like Black Panther, it was a solid 3-star movie at best. In terms of relaunching the Rocky franchise, it did well. It was a better attempt than I expected. Over time, I warmed to the idea of a sequel. I wanted to see where Rocky and Donnie went together. When news came out that they were doing the "Drago's son" route, I literally said "Oh no. Please no."

But that's what they went with, and now the trailer has dropped. While it mostly looks good (like Donnie having a family...good character development, considering his upbringing), I do have a few concerns. It looks like they are showing Donnie taking his next steps, just without Rocky. They probably have another argument., this time about him fighting Drago's son. "You don't think I can beat him?" Donnie asks. The trailer cuts Rocky's response.

So I guess Donnie decides to leave Philadelphia (and his support structure -- Rocky, Bianca, his gym) and go to the Delphi Gym in Hollywood to be trained by Little Duke and his people from the first movie. The trailer shows them several times, including during Donnie's walk to the ring. I guess this is him either away from Rocky by choice, or Rocky decides he doesn't want to be in the ring with Drago again and bows out of training him.

I can see how it could work in terms of character exploration, but I'm not sure I like it. I think these two need each other, and Rocky should be there at Donnie's moment of triumph. Maybe the movie will indeed show that. We'll see.

I liked the first one, but to be honest I'm much more excited for Rambo 5.

If they're going for a Thanksgiving release. The only acceptable tagline should be "I will bake for you."

It would go against the tone, but a part of me wishes they would bring up how Rocky single-handedly won the Cold War during his speech after his fight with Drago.

Having Creed fight Drago's son is a great touch though. I really want to see how this plays out.

I'm not at all sold by the trailer (I really wish they had waited for Coogler to be done with Black Panther; he wanted to do Creed 2), but Creed is legitimately one of the greatest movies I've seen in the past few years so I'll still give the sequel a shot.

If you don't tear up during that moment in the final fight in Creed--you know the one--you have no soul.

Really surprised by how good the first Creed was and I always love me some Rocky so, I will deffo watch Creed II.

Loved Creed. Loved Rocky IV. Really looking forward to Creed II. My daughter and I are planning on watching Rocky through Creed (we might skip Rocky V through), prior to Creed II's release.

oh.. wrong creed

I wonder if they would include an updated training montage similar to the one from Rocky IV. That would be cool.
