I don't see why this would be a spoiler. The cover advertises an article about the monsters, no different than had the cover been about an article on the Caves of Androzani.

Well, it does say that they are "COMING BACK...FOR VICTORY!"

But I agree - not much of a spoiler. What would be a spoiler is if the Daleks didn't come back, for once...

Fabulous cover! But the Daleks? *yawn*

Isn't there some agreement where they have to use the Daleks once per season otherwise Hancocks, who own the rights, get difficult?

Which is unfortunate, as I agree with the sentiment. We could do with a break from them.

(That said, it's Mark Gatiss who's written this year's ep, and he's one of my favourite Who writers, so fingers crossed!)

I think so. As other than that, I can think of no reason why they bothered to include a Dalek in Waters of Mars.

^^ I didn't know any of that about the Daleks and Hancocks. I didn't really care much for the Dalek in WoM.

Really? Oddly I thought that moment was quite beautiful, odd considering it dealt with such an instrument of death.

On the plus side at least we get the Daleks out of the way quite quickly, that said much as I like them, I do wish we'd get back to the Classic mode of them not turning up every year. Didn't Tom Baker, for example, only encounter them twice? Genesis and Destiny?

This is a persistent Internet rumor, but has never actually been confirmed by anyone in the know. I suspect it was invented by people who couldn't stomach the fact that Rusty wanted to bring the Daleks back every year.

Yeah, I really dug that scene.

Speaking of Doctor Who Magazine, is it worth getting? There is a comic book store in Salt Lake that I'm told carries them and I was thinking of getting a hold there for it. Does it have enough material to make it worth the money, or is it like so many other magazine that have 4 - 5 pages of good material and 40 - 50 pages of ads and junk?

My opinion - it's very much worth it. There are ads, yes, but it's nothing like, say, Entertainment Weekly. And with the rare exception, they are advertising Doctor Who-related products (the latest Big Finish cds, etc.,).

As for the content, well, there's always a full page essay written by the executive producer. So it's not going to be RTD anymore. There are reviews of the latest classic series dvd releases, info on upcoming books, interviews with the cast and crew, and usually a couple very in-depth articles about ... something. It might be about the history of the Daleks, or the making of Day of the Daleks, or the upcoming Christmas special, or whatever they have that month.

It covers the spin-offs as well. And one thing I love is that it covers the classic series as well as the modern era.

My suggestion for you is to go to that store and pick up a copy. I think it's around 8 bucks. Take it home and read through it. After you've had personal experience with it, you can decide if it's something you want to get every month.

Can't we just have Delek trash cans in a few episodes? That would solve any legal issues and we could take a break from them for once!

DWM is the best TV-based magazine I have read. Very few ads, very much content (including a monthly column by Moffat and an ongoing comic). I gave up reading the Star Trek and Star Wars mags ages ago, but I still buy this. Definitely worth it.

I agree that DWM is totally worth the price. It's packed with pictures and articles, and what little advertising there is, it's mostly Who-related. Aside from the fact we're a month behind getting issues here in Canada (still waiting for 417 to appear at the shop I go to) and that often the type size is very small (to allow for longer articles, I guess), I have no complaints.

Really? I mean, I absolutely adore "The Unquiet Dead," and count it among my absolute favorite episodes of the revival, but "The Idiot's Lantern" is the textbook definition of bland. I don't even remember a single thing from it outside of the Doctor / police interrogation.
