Court Martial

Lieutenant Commander

Has anyone else ever wondered why Spock was late in meeting Kirk at the beginning of this episode, or what he was about to say before Jaimie ran in and broke into hysterics?

It's a log extract so Spock probably had to review it to make sure the playback was from the time of the ion storm (IOW, I doubt Spock handed over the last year of the log).
So he knew what was on it and was about to let Kirk know that sh*t was going to hit the fan when Jaime burst in and interrupted him.

Yes, that’s what I have thought at times, but wouldn’t he have come out and said something right at the beginning? Or before the trial?
I mean, Stone pretty much took it from him, established the discrepancy and as convening authority conducted the investigation as he sought fit. Spock would have no say in that matter.

ETA: Corrected to the right Stone. :alienblush:

I guess I thought that, somewhere in the episode, Kirk and Spock would have had a moment to discuss it.

Stone pretty much took it and moved it right along. Spock probably would have requested to investigate it further, and he couldn't once the court martial was underway and that log became evidence.

They (Kirk and Spock) did discuss it off-screen at some point because Kirk ordered Spock to check out the computer of the E.
SHAW: Mister Spock, as a First officer, you know a great deal about computers, don't you?
SPOCK: I know all about them.
SHAW: It is possible for a computer to malfunction, is it not?
SPOCK: Affirmative.
SHAW: Do you know of any malfunction which has caused an inaccuracy in the Enterprise computer?
SPOCK: Negative.
SHAW: That answer is based on your mechanical survey of the Enterprise computer ordered by the defendant prior to this trial, is it not?
SPOCK: Affirmative.

And there you go. I missed the “ordered by the defendant” part.
