Countdown #2 4 page preview

I just picked up issue #1 today and I'm going to ask the obvious question which has probably been discussed to death elsewhere... how is Data alive?! Is this meant to be an altered future? Could it be B-4 now evolved enough to be Data's replacement (doubtful).

Geordi rebuilt him using the awesomeness that is quantum mechanics.
I can't tell if you're joking or not...

I don't think there's been an in-story explanation yet. However, quite a few people have figured that it probably is B-4, and that sufficient time has elapsed to allow the Data personality/programming to become dominant, or however that's supposed to work.

The Wormhole may well be joking. Or he may not; sarcasm can be tricky in a strictly textual medium.

You think it's bad in a textual medium?

Try textiles! Some people just don't get it when their curtains are cracking a joke.

It really would have been prudent to include this in the film.
What harm could it have possibly done?
If there is a verbal reference to Captain Data... that is going to blow my mind ten ways from Wednesday.

No, it is not an altered future.
They have already said they will not ignore Nemesis (or any other movie) and the comics take place after it.

As for an explanation, we don't have one yet.
But to quote a post of mine from another thread

I was just now over at startrekonline.com and i was reading some of the great work they are doing with the backstory from Nemesis until the time the game is set.
In their latest update I read this:

http://www.startrekonline.com/timeline/2384
And Starfleet decides to transfer the Soong-type android B-4 to the custody of the Soong Foundation. The prototype android was deactivated after its discovery by the Enterprise-E in 2379, but foundation representatives say they hope to restore his full positronic functioning.
So since, as far as we can tell by the uniforms, there is some form of continuity between the game and the comic, could it be that the Data in Countdown is actually B-4 fixed by the Soong Foundation and with Data's memory and personality restored ?

I could see this happening.

Nero's wife has some nice tits! Gotta buy the paperback.
Nero's wife in the film will be played by Scottie Thompson, who played "Jeanne Benoit" in the TV show NCIS (Tony's DiNozzo's fake girlfriend whom he actually fell in love with while pretending to do so for an undercover mission).

While Scottie Thompson is very hot indeed (in an exotic sort of way -- particularly her eyes) she unfortunately does not have Gravity-defying Double-D-cup Comic-book-babe Boobies.

She's listed on the Star Trek IMDb credit page simply as "Nero's Wife", so I don't know if she will actually have enough screentime to be given a name.

IMDb Page: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2174090/

By the way -- how do we know that's Nero's wife in that comic? I'm not doubting you, I'm just wondering if I missed something.

We saw Nero's wife back in Countdown 1 and she stays on Romulus while Nero and Spock depart on the Narada.

So whoever that is in the 4 preview pages of Countdown 2, it's probably a crew member and definitely not Nero's wife.

TrekMovie has a review of Countdown #2.
In the review they state that they successfully grafted Data's neural net onto B-4 and that Picard's an ambassador. I like that Picard's an ambassador. It makes sense not only to the story, but to the character. Kirk warned him against promotion, "because while you're in that chair you can make a difference," but this isn't an admiral's desk job, it's a very active role in diplomacy, something which suits Picard's talents such that it would make a happy job for him.
