Just wondering. How much do you think has he changed in the years after Hobus?

No. First it would piss off fans. Second, all the tidbits Kurtzman and the staff have shared including the Picard Disco thingy have been about how Picard represents the best of us or whatever.

The backlash would be entertaining, but I can’t imagine it happening. If anything, I’d expect him to be the rogue good guy, standing up to dodgy admirals as usual.

My guess at the overall character arc is Picard leads a motley crew of damaged, reluctant antiheroes, and basically inspires them into being Starfleet material due to sheer force of will by the end of the season.

Picard is like Aragorn. He can't NOT be a hero. It's just who he is. Q could not break him, the Borg couldn't, either. He might have to do go outside the normal process to do the right thing, but he's done that before.

Worst case scenario, "the unthinkable" is a riff on Logan (where one of Xavier's first seizures killed off the other X-Men) and he was somehow the sole survivor of the Enterprise. But even then, he wouldn't be a villain.
