Cost-effective cooking

Also, if you want crock pot recipes, the best place to go is A Year of Slow Cooking. The author makes a new crock pot recipe every day and blogs it.

Hey, thanks for this link. I'm a huge crockpot fan - I use mine all the time - more often than my stove and oven (excepting baking) combined! This site will be very helpful.

I could never figure out how to use my crock pot without everything tasting dry, overcooked, and shitty. It sits and collects dust in my basement.
Put water in it.

My Aunt does this a lot. She has a mini-cake pan (eight loaf style cakes to a pan) and she'll make up mini meatloafs

Not sure why, but I hadn't heard of these before. Granted, I don't do a lot of baking, but reading that lead me to some interesting google searches, and I think I'll be picking some up. Mini cake pans are a pretty nifty idea for not only portion control but also baking faster. Same total amount of meat loaf, for example, done in 18 minutes vs. 75 minutes. I don't see a downside there.

I sometimes put the meatloaf in mini-muffin pans, though you could do a regular muffin pan for the same effect. It's great for portion control for me!

We do not share the same tastes. That sounds gross to me.
You might like this one better.
Cook up some rice, then make some hamburger patties in a frying pan and after they have browned poor in a can of rotel tomatoes and green chilies cook down the liquid a bit then serve over the rice.

I blame the Italians and their tasty cured meats :(

What you do with Italian men in your own time.......

(...... is this the moment to confess to enjoying swalling a hot Spanish chorizo sausage a bit earlier on? )

Reminds me of the time I was in England and saw a place touting faggots and meat pies. I more or less had an idea of what they meant, but my cornhole still puckered involuntarily at first.

My Aunt does this a lot. She has a mini-cake pan (eight loaf style cakes to a pan) and she'll make up mini meatloafs and freeze them and them microwave them during the week for work lunches or a quick meal. She even cooks veggies an instant potatoes or baked then takes those little divided Rubbermaid / Tupperware bowls and makes up a meal. She says it saves her a bunch of time and money a month.

I've done the "tray meals" like she's down and I found that beef works best for freezing and reheating, especially tips.

oooh meatloaf.

... in anticipation? :borg:
