Cool Moment, Crap Episode?

Python Trek

Sometimes my favorite Trek moments seem to come along in the weaker episodes. There will be this one scene or line that, while not redeeming an otherwise weak story, is nonetheless very entertaining. My faves:

1. TOS' "Bread and Circuses"---a pretty silly episode, but it contains my ALL-TIME favorite Bones/Spock exchange, the conversation in the cell. "You wouldn't know what to do with a genuine warm feeling...". Great stuff.

2. TNG's "Justice"---After beaming down to a beautiful planet and having a hot, nearly naked blonde chick hug him, Worf says to Riker, totally deadpan, "Nice planet".

3. VOY's "Caretaker"---a pretty silly pilot, but I love the whole feel of the Ocampans' underground world---the atmosphere felt like one of those early '70's SF films that were About Something (TM), and when Kes gives her "I saw the sun!" speech, I was really rooting for her.

4. ST: TUC---I really do not share fandom's appreciation for this film, but it has a few good scenes in it, and the best one for me is the mind meld interrogation scene---jeez, it's like Spock gives Valeris a body cavity search with a rusty shovel! Intense stuff.

That piece of crap known as STV - The Final Frontier does have a moment I like a lot - when Sybok tries to mind control Spock, and Spock tells him that he is not the conflicted kid he once left behind. Also, when McCoy, because of his bond with Kirk and Spock, declines going with Sybok. Some good stuff in a bad bad bad bad movie.

Henry Gibson was hilarious as Nilva in "Profit and Lace". He gave that role his all. "Here! Have a Slug-O-Cola!"

You've gotta mention McCoy pulling the plug on his father. That's just a kick in the garbonzos.

ENT: Precious Cargo: Trip in his royal blue undies and Princess Fishstick in her slip are in slogging around in the swamp just as Archer, T'Pol and Reed arrive for the rescue.

TOS: Spock's Brain: One of the women hits the pain button and everybody falls to the floor except Spock. Scientific proof of the adage, No Brain, No Pain.

TOS: "All Our Yesterdays" - "Just how many of you are there, Mr Atoz?".
TNG: "Qpid" - Worf declares that he is "not a merry man" and later breaks Geordi's lute.
DS9: "Emissary" - Sisko explaining baseball to the Prophets.
VOY: "Waking Moments" - Tuvok having a nightmare about forgetting to put on clothes.
ENT: "These Are The Voyages" - Archer going out to address the UCOP .

I liked the campfire scenes in TFF. Also, the montage of Enterprises at the end of TATV is kind of cool.

Yep, nothing more character destroying than a rape scene.

Speaking of rape scenes... /awkward.

ST: NEM: Troi telepathically helping to track the Scimitar by 'connecting' with the Viceroy (paying him back for the repeated telepathic rape and then the E-E finally doing some damage and destroying its cloaking device with a volley of quantum torpedoes.

TNG pilot "Encounter at Farpoint": The space-jellyfish rising from the planet's surface to greet the other, they pause only to caress tendrils before departing. As Picard declares: "It's mate!"

I'm a sucker for all that "humankind is at peace" stuff, so I always get a little dewy-eyed whenever a Trek character talks lovingly about humanity having gotten its act together. My fave of these is in a film that I don't like, First Contact, when Riker and Troi are giving Zefram all the details on the hopeful future that they come from. Nice moment.

I intensely dislike all the Meyer-Bennet films (Trek 2 thru 6), but as I pointed out in my prior post, they do have moments. Another of my favorites is the exchange between Spock and Sarek at the end of Trek 3 - " Tell her I feel fine"

^While I can't wrap my head about your intense dislike of Trek's 2 - 6, I just want to point out that Spock telling Sarek that he 'felt fine' was at the end of STIV, after the trial; not III.

^ still a fine, fine moment. the entire scene is great.

they are my friends

yes of course.

:)

Another one I wanted to add, the scene in TMP when McCoy beams aboard being all space disco stud with that cool beard.

Geez, how could I make a mistake like that. I am getting old. 20 lashes for me, sorry.

Favourite son is a horrible episode of Voyager, but the beginning where Kim violates orders and fires the phasers for no reason at a seemingly friendly ship was quite shocking.
I ended up wishing the entire episode was about THAT rather than what it became after about 10 minutes!
