Confession ~ napkinmania ~ I just can't stop!

Is this the confessional thread? And totally without judgement and blame?
Jolly good.

I have to confess to a weird obsession.

I have a "thing" about crisp linen napkins at nice restaurants, so everytime I go to one, a napkin seems to accidently fall into my bag. I bagged two this week and now have quite a collection.

There must be others of you that have similar quirks?
I know it's wrong ~ but they're just so nice

(I bagged one from Son's posh Japanese restaurant earlier this week, left it in the kitchen and came home from work later to find it neatly folded )

I think you're a little unclear on the concept. It's the silverware you're supposed to steal.

NOO no no no no No! It's the nice plates that should be finding their way into your handbag!

Kidding of course.

I got a nice, extra, logo-imprinted paper towel from Disneyland's Club 33 if you want it. It's not cloth, though. But it's still cool. People go to the bathrooms there to swipe a stack of them, besides using the bathroom, that is.

I have something of a collection of hotel room key cards. Probably somewhere between 50 and 100 by now. It all started when I forgot to return my key cards when checking out once, and now I try to deliberately keep them. I think I've only had one hotel stay in the last ten years or so where they insisted that I return the card.

It's easier now that you can generally check out of your room through the TV - I don't even have to stop at the front desk on the way out.

When I go on trips with a group of people (8-10) or more, we end up collecting those flashy vibrating things that you get to let you know your table is ready. We generally will stop in an area that has a few restaurants and will go to each one to get a table. The first one to flash gets our group. Once, when we returned the rental cars, one of them had about 60-70 of those in the trunk.

Back in the day, when I was active in fandom, I'd go to two or three nice hotels a year with Trek conventions. I went through a phase of bagging any nice drinking glasses from the bar. Naughty, I know.

 I'm going to need a bigger bag! ;)

Thanks for the offer but the postage ?!!

You know, there's something just plain wrong about a Klingon woman saying "Jolly Good."

 And confessing! It's my human side coming out :)

I'm so glad others have similar foibles ~ TT, Ed and Willsbabe I salute you :)

Things have to be matching though... what do you do about that? :p You'll have to go back a few times to have a table set.

Due to 'lively' partys none of my wine glasses match, my plates are all different as bought in a sale, my cutlery has gone walkabout, the tealight holders are not the same ~ so different coloured napkins just make for a very eclectic dining table :D As do the guests normally

I think you're on to something. They should get rid of sets all together! It's a home-ware stores conspiracy, I tells ya'.

... is not that much. What, a buck or so? Don't worry about it.

PM me with your address if you want me to mail one to you. You can only get these if you go to Club 33--so they're not easy to get. You have to know someone who's a member, or know someone who knows someone who's a member. Or know someone who's willing to mail you one.

The thing is, K'Eh, have you tried to buy any cloth napkins lately? You can't find the buggers anywhere, or if you do, they're ridiculously expensive. I bought some fabric recently to sew some tablecloths and napkins because the store-bought ones I found were crap or really expensive.

The moral of my babblings? Don't forget to swipe a tablecloth. ;)

Oh Ikea what have you done to us . I did used to have everything matching but now it's more fun. And with different wine glasses everyone knows whose drink is whose ~ 'tis a cunning (and cheap) plan ;)

Have done, thank you :). Perhaps I could start a worldwide collection?

I could do my magician trick and leave everything standing! That is why the restaurant ones are so irrisitable! And my Mum sold her sewing machine :(

Or stitch a few of the extras together for an eclectic patchwork table cloth. ;)

I never thought I'd say this, but I'm actually with the late Princess Di on this ~ on a polished table top candles reflect better and just a runner is enough. (and I can't be bothered with the sewing )

I inherited some nice napkins from Lakeland recently, but I feel your pain. The only other napkins I could find before those are vile.

I'm going to ebay right now to get prices...

I tend not to use cloth napkins, unless it's a special occasion, owing to the fact a hate laundering them, and then of course you have to iron them to get those nice folds. That is one housewifely duty too far for me. :p
