Condition of Movie source materials (negatives, etc...)

You must have a very short attention span; most people I know didn't try to claw their way out until the sequences of the Enterprise traveling through the V'Ger cloud. :p

I think TWOK is getting the super treatment only because of it's widely regarded status. I for one am a little surprised that Paramount didn't follow MGM in what they did to the James Bond ultimate edition collection that had all 20 Bond movies restored and cleaned up frame by frame. This is only six movies yet MGM got Loury to do all 20 Bond films that go back WAY before 1979.

Given how they managed to ruin On Her Majesty's Secret Service, a blessing in disguise?

Details? If the new disk is messed up, it probably has to do with the way they ruined PATTON, which has nothing to do with Lowery's end, but is studio guys freaking over visible grain and wrecking the image to hide it.

They gave it a horrible blue grade, which ruined the vibrant cinematography - check out how dull the opening fight on the beach and the helicopter approach on Piz Gloria look now. It's a real shame, as OHMSS was probably the most visually stunning Bond film. Hopefully we aren't stuck with this version for the long haul.
