Conan's STAR TREK

Each night, it seems, CONAN does a star trek joke...so why not repeat them here?

On last night's episode (Aug 28 2009). He revealed that they are coming out with a STAR TREK aftershave (which is true). He said those who wore it would be telling all the girls.."Dont worry girls, I have no idea how to unhook your bra"...The crowd laughed...and why? Because the general perception of Star trek fans in the real world is that they are sexless goobs....of course, we know this isn't true....hmmmmm...yeah..

He concluded the joke by making the V sign with both hands, showing how hard it would be to unhook bras when trying to use the V hand symbol...

It's a stereotype I didn't use to understand. Then I went to my first Trek convention. :)
Really though, being a Trek fan never hampered my social life. In high school and college I had many girlfriends and I married a beautiful woman. I doubt my experience is rare.

P.S. I prefer Letterman. ;)

I do not watch the late night gabfests. Having said that, I would love to see some of the jokes here.
I have never had trouble getting a date or knowing what to do when I got one, and I have been a fan since the early 1970s.

^It's shameful that someone like Fallon could ever take over the franchise started by Letterman. He's truly a hack.

Unfortunately, movies like Trekkers have promoted the stereo type that the only girls the male Trek fans can get are female Trek fans.

I know there are exceptions to the rule, but I doubt the stereo type will change any time soon.

Yeah, pissed me off and I changed the channel not to return. Stupid crap!

totally agree....most fans seem to love these TREKKERS movies..i think they are causing more harm than good..though the worst harm was the woman who showed up for jury duty in her StarFleet officer...we are still recuperating from that!!

^^

I don't think we ever will recover from that.

As much as I love Star Trek, I will always realize it is a TELEVISION SHOW. People who take it so seriously, enough to wear a uniform around town like that sad woman does, are an embarrassment to us all.

No offense meant, but I think that's a rather unhealthy attitude. Live and let live, I say. If someone wants to dress up like a Klingon, or a Jedi, or a drag queen, or a Biker, or Elvis, or George Washington, I say let 'em. Of course, they should also know when not to wear it (like at the office).

If anything, I give them props for dressing up after things that inspire them and gives them passion. In that sense, they're no different to me than the military, clergy, fashionistas, and sports fans.

Person dressing up in a Star Trek costume=Military person...? Gotta heartily disagree.:vulcan:

If I'm not mistaken (and I usually am, so take it with a grain of salt), military personnel aren't obligated to wear their uniforms when off duty or on leave. However, you'll still have military tourists sightseeing major cities and vacation spots in military garb -- ergo, it's a choice to wear your pride when you don't have to. It all boils down to choice when the time allows.

It was a repeat from one of Conan's first episodes on THE TONIGHT SHOW. But it was funny none the less seeing it again...

Conan bought two wax dummies..one of fonzie..the other of Tom cruise...he was trying to decide what they could be used for...HERE COMES THE TREK JOKE..

He said that if the wax dummies were put outside of any 14 year old trek-boy's fan's bedroom door it would guarentee the boy's virginity until way in his 30s...

Yeah, a bit harsh, but it was funny and the crowd laughed..REALLY hard...yikes...

That is one of the reasons that I've only gone to a few Trek conventions, even though I've been a fan since the early '70s.

It was embarrassing to see how many fans fit the bad trekkie stereotypes. Some of the questions that I heard the fans asking the personalities...I couldn't believe they weren't scripted by the writers of the SNL "Get a Life" skit.

BTW, Conan is a trekkie himself, so don't take his jokes too seriously.

Yeah... Conan does a lot of jokes based on the stereotypes about the Irish, and the subject he ridicules the most is himself. If you took him seriously, practically everyone could be insulted by his shows. :rommie:

I thought he was a Trekkie because he had Shatner and Takei doing those "Secrets" jokes a few times.

Oh yeah, he is a fan. The fact Shatner's voice still sets up IN THE YEAR 3000, and all that, is proof enough to me...but Trekkers, I think, is more damaging that Conan. It espouses to explore the life of trek fans, but really amps up the 'whacko' contingent just for sales..that is bad IMO..

I can agree with this point.

However, how many jurors have worn their favorite sports jersey's to trial?
