Hopefully Momoa will be better than Arnold, since Arnold wasn't a very good Conan. And no, McGowan isn't playing Red Sonja.
But based on the plot synopses I've read, apparently the main villain kills Conan's father and destroys his village, just like in the Milius/Schwarzenegger movie. So I highly doubt this movie's going to be any more loyal to the books than the first movie was.

Problem I have with this is that it seems to be a remake of the movie and not of the comic.
You know what made my day? when Christopher Nolan said Batman 3 would NOT be in 3D because he doesn't like it at all. Thanks for a reboot that's going to look just as crappy 20 years from now as the original does! Defeats the purpose of an update really.

Amen Jarod. Even if the people behind this one claim to go back to Howard's source, are they really going to be faithful? Frankly, they already had that syndicated Conan show 10 years ago, isn't that enough? I really hope this doesn't look like the new Clash of the Titans. Good Lord, can you imagine if they released 300 in 3D?! That's all we need!

I hope not. She's too petite for the role. There aren't a lot of actresses I can think of who would be right - Katee Sackhoff being one of the few. Sonja's power may have a mystical source but she should at least look like she could hold her own in a fight.
I really hope you're right. I want a movie based on the Conan stories, not on the Ah-nold movie.
When the original stories are as good as the Conan stories are, you'd think someone would realize that their writing work is already more than half done for them, why not just glom onto it?
But Red Sonja was invented by the comics iirc, or at least heavily revamped from the original Red Sonya, so the comics should be given their due as well.
Which, fortunately, doesn't change my point that it's probably a remake of the movie and not a version of the source material.
Thank you! Imagine if you made a proper picture and then really made all your dough by reissuing some of the tougher to find Conan stories, or put them out for ereaders and what not. I don't believe something has to have crazy effects to be considered good. What ever happened to story and mythos?
Story and mythos got replaced by how cool can we make something look and can this generate money? I am looking forward to this, but not that it will be in 3D, sigh.
As JarodRussell noes - from the plot details available, it looks more it was based on the previous film rather than the books.
Indeed, he was regularly out-acted by the set.
She's listed on imdb as playing someone called Tamara. No sign of Red Sonja, or Thulsa Doom for that matter, not that I want him back since hopefully this time they'll bring in Thoth-Amon as the correct arch-villain for Conan as opposed to Kull.
There's no sign of what role Saïd Taghmaoui will be playing. Could he be Thulsa Doom/Thoth-Amon? If the role isn't going to be used in this movie, I nominate Farin Tahir for the sequel.
