I am in the process of writing, well for the lack of a better word, The Ark PILOT. Creating an all new story concept with in the trek universe can be a challenge.

So when I post it, which will be soon, I am throwing the doors open. I would love any suggestions any of you may have and will include credit for you in the 'by line' of the story. The ship concept designs that have I have seen already here on this boad are very cool...so we will use them...

My imagination for future stories will be limited in that animal life is not one of my strong suits. So if you have an idea for a kind of life form that would be important enough to save, let me know. Would be interesting to see what you come up with..

Since I don't read all of the Trek books I am going to place this story 10 years after the events of Nemesis. Already Dr. Bashier and Admirals Janeway and Ross are playing important parts in the pilot. But new characters will be too.

So for all I know Bashier and Janeway are dead in the TREK book world. If so, then I will just pretend their deaths never happened.

I have taken the idea that the 'world' that will be used will be indeed a DYSONSPHERE. It will be much smaller than the one scotty crashed into. The area inside will be the size of the surface of jupiter. The star in the center of this sphere will be one of the smallest, and yet previously unknown variety of stars. (I think...Is there such a star that small..then again, maybe the builders made one...who knows)

Here is where I need help...if I call the ship USS ARK, what will I call the sphere, the actual home for these animal and plant life forms? I need something cool to work with...

artificial star/power source. Sphere is a "found" relic. And you can name it after its location or the guy who found it.

Or just use a jumble of numbers & letters like the SG-1 team designates to each of the worlds with active Stargates.

How about instead of a sphere, you go with a version of the ring "Orbitals" Iain M. banks uses?

He even had one that was a series of rings, for variable "gravity". (More like a stepped cone.)

His rings were still HUGE, but nowhere as huge as Ringworld - they orbited around a star, didn't *circle it* - and nowhere near a Dyson Sphere size, but they still contained 2 - 120 times Earth's surface area (depending on width).

Divided up into "plates" each sometimes with radically different environments.

They were sized so that one rotation = roughly one "day" (I assume) while still maintaining one G (again, I assume - not a human culture, per se, but close to our norms) And they were tilted relative to there orbit, so that one side got sub while the other was in dark.

Your ring could be smaller, but still many Earth's size. (With an artificial sun in the center.)

Or even the same size as his, with 20 to 120 times Earth's living space.

Plenty of room, without being supermassive.
