Is there any place on-line where we can get a general overview of the backstory to the characters/events that are relavent to Trek XI? I am refering specifically to the comic series that was released this Spring that was supposed to give us a little backstory of events before the movie.

I want to see Trek XI again, but I think I might find it more enjoyable if I learned the stuff from the comics first... without having to go out and buy the comics!! I'll probably see the movie again w/my family who will be seeing it for the first time! :techman:

This is the problem I have with these comics. You shouldn't have to need supplemental material(podcasts, writer interviews, webisodes, comics) to watch a film or tv show.

That was a fundamental problem with this film as a result Nero's motivations, the events in the 24th century all come off vague and unsatisfying in the film.

You don't need them, but it does fill in the gaps and gives you more of an understanding with some neat cameos.

The reason its a super nova is because thats more easier for audiences to understand, but the comics just expand on it.

You do need them because it fleshes out Nero and the events surrounding what ultimately leads to changing Trek history and bringing Spock & Nero into the story. As someone who didn't read them beforehand and wasn't aware of their existence, that aspect of the film was flimsy and half-formed at best.

Ya I really wish they had found a way to actually include the scenes from the countdown comics as part of the movie instead of only having them in a comic that not to many people read. If I had not read them I would have been a bit lost in some places. In fact I saw the movie with my brother and he had not read them and after the movie he was confused about some things that the comics would have cleared up.

DC put out some good issues with Backstories that would of been great to see in film check out the issue from my Avatar S2 #74

They also published a special that covered Kirk's life in Iowa with his Brother thru Starfleet Academy, great stuff.
